Nothing against Shulk, I think hes a perfectly fitting character to be in the game. But honestly, with the whole stat switching mechanic thing, hes honestly a character you either main or you don't play. For casual play, its just an overwhelming number of information to keep track of and shuffling you don't really want to bother with it. I don't think theres anything hugely wrong with him, I just don't want to bother with him. Also I tried playing Xenoblade and it just didn't hook me.

I play Casually but I also love playing the weirdo characters that have a bit more complexity to them than the average simple character (like Shulk and Mega Man)

Plus with Monado you can do everything and he's entertaining to watch when he's played in tournies

#59: Rosalina & Luma

We are continuing the main or don't play train here. I really liked the Galaxy games, but we are a long way from Galaxy 2 and as we move further and further Rosalina's relevance falls further and further. She isn't quite Daisy territory, but someday, that may be her. I just don't enjoy the two-in-one mechanic and on the opposite end hitting Luma can be endlessly frustrating.

#58: Ice Climbers

Two in one? Did I say two in one. Yes, yes I did. Have another one. Smash sometimes throws in these obscure novelty characters that are like "hey remember this game you absolutely don't remember" and they are kind of neat at first, and then you get to the point we are however many years later and realize you really just don't give a shit that the Ice climbers exist. Its not like Smash somehow gave them a series revival or anything. They are best known for...being a Smash character. The novelty is gone, now they are just the annoying character that hits you twice.

Rosalina is a character I can't play worth a damn, but I like her...aside from Luma being able to act while she's in hitstun, or being grabbed, or is reeling from a shield break (why is that a thing)

The Castlevania duo is pretty neat, but at the end of the day these two simply arent the inseparable pair like Ryu/Ken and just kind of make you question if we really needed two of them. The answer is we didn't and Simon is pretty much the clear number one choice and Richter kind of an add on. Echos and clones are definitely mostly frowned upon here, and Richter is no exception.

They would probably do that for any character that comes back after missing an entry in the series, and Ice Climbers were the first returning characters shown in the Ultimate trailer so of course they would get that reaction. But, unless they are broken (again), I can't see them being played much.

I, for one, am in favor of deleting the Ice Climbers and forget they were ever a thing.

One notable thing as Sakurai said is that a small handful of Simon's moves had to be borrowed from Richter so it did make sense for Richter to be an echo fighter out of respect or something

Remember when I said I don't like Earthbound? Yeah I don't like Earthbound. Ness is a very generic character. Hes up this high mainly because if I'm going to play one of the pair, its almost certainly going to be Ness. But mostly I'm just sick of the fake cult following Nintendo tried to build off Earthbound. They always referred to it as a cult classic when the truth is the game wasn't great and the rest of the Mother series never made it over here for good reason.

#55: Villager

Villager is one of those obscure creative characters out there but...no one is fucking playing Animal Crossing for the Villager. People are playing Animal Crossing to help various cute animal characters. No one gives a shit about the Villager. Villager is taking a spot that should have gone to Tom Nook or something. The one thing going for Villager, hes a big step up from the Mii Fighters. Hes a player character people might actually find interesting because hes you know, from a game.

Ike is like Marth and Roy but big and slow. Actually, he doesn't really have that much in common with them other than he uses a sword and has a counter, but the general look and feel is in the same area. But still, hes sloooow. When people pick Ike, I laugh at them, because they are going to be getting hit with things repeatedly while they foolishly chase forever and ever. Again, I don't like Fire Emblem much, and Ike being so slow just frustrates me more than anything.

#53: Ganondorf

Take Captain Falcon and make him completely and utterly unplayable? Whatever could go wrong. Ganondorf is one of Smash's greatest tragedies, an iconic character reduced to a Smash-fanfiction character clone. Its never made much sense and it seems they'll never truly take the time to give Ganondorf the original moveset he deserves. He has a sword now. Thats good, I guess. I actually played a little bit of him in Brawl, but hes absolutely intolerable in the latest iteration to me, some his moves feeling like you might as well put the controller down for 5 seconds and eat a cookie or something.

What, Mario? This early? Yeah, I'm a little surprised too, but I was going through the remaining roster and was just kind of thinking "you know who I'd never pick? Mario." Mario is boring, and you know what, hes got 3 iterations in the game. If I want to play Mario, I'm going to play Dr. Mario. If I want to play Luigi, I'll play Luigi. But you know what I'm probably just going to leave for another day cause there isn't enough time to play 74 characters in one sitting? Its Mario. Also for whatever reason they decided to give him FLUDD and Sunshine is an unplayable mess. I've been a huge fan of 3D Mario but everytime I even think to go back and try Sunshine I quickly realize FLUDD is a horrible gimmick and just detracts from the whole experience. They had an opportunity to replace him with the more relevant Cappy but it seems like whatever real idea they had for that probably got dropped, so we are left with a relic from a terrible past.

#51: Little Mac

Character that was an obvious pick for Smash, totally fitting, belongs, I just don't give a damn about him and find having a million different ways of punching to be rather boring. Funny story from a few years ago: among my younger cousins, I taught one of them the secret to Little Mac in what amounted to like 8 and under games. Keep in my they were at the competency of "most of them cant jump, cant move and attack, never shield/grab" etc level of the game. But she was the youngest and she liked playing Little Mac. So I showed her the C-Stick(Or whatever it is on the newer controllers). I told her "press the C stick in whichever direction your opponent is in, dont even worry about moving, just play the game entirely with the C-Stick". Little Mac is new player friendly to the point she basically obliterated her feeble competition with one button. Their games have evolved a good bit beyond that today, probably partially out of necessity to not lose to Little Mac spam.

One thing that's weird to think about is how much OoT influenced Zelda in Smash. Link was usually a kid, but it cemented Adult Link as the default one in Smash, Sheik only showed up once, but she's in all but the first game, and Ganon was always a pig monster before OoT, and even after OoT is still usually a pig monster.

Who the hell asked for a billion Fire Emblem characters? I certainly didn't. Corrin has this strange gigantic deceptive range that is endlessly annoying. To his credit, hes one of the more unique Fire Emblem characters, but hes still from a series that I just can't seem to get into in the slightest. I admittedly have rather limited exposure to most of the DLC characters, so it'll be interesting to see how my opinion changes on them when they have a full game lifecycle.
