Because I have no debt, and lived within my disturbingly meager means, my credit is useless. I am not a suitable target for usury, so I can't get loans.

Last I checked it was in the mid-high 700's. I don't really have a need for good credit though, I barely ever get loans or new credit cards.

According to Bank of America app, 791. It was at 818 at one point and I honestly don't know how. The only major payment I'm doing regularly is my car payment but I'm also regularly doing balance transfer from previous major expenses. I would assume the latter is kinda a black mark.

Probably not good, since all I have is 2 credit cards, I use one just for subscriptions and gas, the other for groceries/food.

I've bought 3 cars in cash and don't own any property/homes, so there's no credit history building there.

As a result, I've been denied a higher end credit card (for work/travel) because there wasn't enough information for them to make a decision on it.

How long have you been using them for? I got my first credit card with BoA in 2012 and wasn't till last year that I purchased my new car so probably just had time to build up my credit.

No matter how low you get your credit you can build it back up again in time.

One of them for like 2 years, the other about 4.

Did you use yours for all of your purchases? I still use a debit card for like 75% of stuff.

Ah. Probably a combination of both for you then. Limited usage and not a long time of having it. I use mind BoA rewards card for maybe 90+% of my purchases.

The score credit card companies give you paying your bills on time.

If you're constantly late, it's low. If you're on time, it's high. If you ever get a loan for anything like buying a house, they're going to look at your credit score to see if they should reject you or not.

I just have a credit card to buy something for $5 every month, then I immediately pay it off through my app so I don't get more than 2 cent fees.

Dunno, I've never checked it. I pay for almost everything with my credit card and then pay it off well before it'd start accruing interest, though, so I would imagine it's pretty good.

Credit cards have a grace period on purchases, they don't hit you with fees the second you buy something.

Usually that is the case but there are situations where the 0% interest unless you pay the minimum doesn't apply. I made balance transfer once to a credit card during a promotional period where there's 0% interest for X months on the balance transfer. But because of that, regular purchases get charged an interest fee, a very small percentage, everyday until I pay it off. It wasn't that bad and once I understood that, I simply stop using that credit card till I paid off the balance transfer.

Don't forget that Equifax breach a while back let people raid their databases and get the credit information including full SSNs of millions of people, so your credit could be completely destroyed before you even get out of school, and you would have no recourse.

Just got my first credit card. Getting one is exceptionally difficult where I live, but there's also less pressure to start building good credit from the moment your parents hand out your first allowance. The first bill isn't even due yet, so my score should be at a perfect "no data, no problems".
