Several police officers in the US city of St Louis were charged Thursday with illegally beating an undercover officer posing as a protester and then attempting to cover up their actions.

The charges stem from a widely-criticized police response to September 2017 street protests in the Midwestern city during which police were accused of using excessive force.

Federal authorities are investigating the way police handled the protest.

Officers Dustin Boone, Randy Hays and Christopher Myers are accused of knocking to the ground an undercover officer who was monitoring protesters, and then kicking and striking the officer with a police baton.

A fourth officer, Bailey Colletta, was accused of lying to a federal grand jury during its investigation of the incident.

The undercover officer, who was not named, was described as a 22-year veteran of the St Louis police force.

The protest had been against the acquittal of former officer Jason Stockley in the fatal shooting of Anthony Lamar Smith.

That case, involving a white officer and a black victim, was one of many around the country that inspired public demonstrations, policing reforms, and led to the Black Lives Matter movement.

The four indicted officers were suspended without pay, according to the city.

"In a few instances, some officers have fallen short of the professionalism required to work in our Police Department," St Louis Public Safety Director Jimmie Edwards said in a statement.

"I believe (the four) officers... are outliers and that the charges levied against them are isolated and not indicative of our Police Department."

But the American Civil Liberties Union said the indictment revealed a culture of unconstitutional behavior in the St Louis police force.

We have so many issues here.

We have police beating a protesters.
We have the police acting as if this is one off thing. (that just so happen to be when one of their own was hurt)
And we have police acting like they are protesters. Another big issue. So when protesters get out of hand, how do we know it is not really a cop doing it so all of the protesters would get in trouble .

So the solution to solving police brutality seems to be having undercover cops from different precincts blend in with protestors. The only way they'll act with accountability is the fear that they might be smacking up one of their own and finally go without pay.

Who are you? Alex Jones? ANTIFA IS NOTHING BUT A FALSE FLAG CREATED BY THE ILLUMINATI!!! ...Come on. Hiding cops among protestors makes perfect sense. It allows them to covertly track the more extreme elements. If there are no extreme elements then the undercover cops are non-factors and if there are extreme elements then they can warn other cops about it. It's highly unlikely it's some grand conspiracy. I mean, think about it. These undercover cops are going to...what? Attack cops and get the shit kicked of them(like this guy did) just to make protestors look bad? That's a hell of a work ethic...

So if this guy did nothing at all. Than this mean cops are beating up normal protesters for no reason.

Also police have history of dressing as protesters and starting Trouble; COINTELPRO for example.

No. It means *those* cops beat up that guy for no reason. If a black guy mugs me that doesn't mean all black guys are muggers, now does it? Not all cops are the same. Just like not all black guys are the same. Shocking, I know.

Why don't you bring up lynching as well? That's about as timely as COINTELPRO.

shockthemonkey posted...
They can certainly agitate other protesters to become more extreme.

So if some undercover cop encouraged me to burn down a business and I did, that makes the situation his fault and not mine? Uh huh. Give me a break. Obviously an undercover cop shouldn't do something like that but I'd still be a psychopathic scumbag piece of shit in that situation.

This is the most defensive post Ive ever read, are you a cop or do you just eat boots for breakfast?

You need to read more if you think that post is anything special. And no. I'm not a cop nor do I have any special love of cops. I do not, however, have any hatred of cops. I view cops to be like any group: Some are good, some are corrupt and some are incompetent. The cops that attack that officer for no reason are obviously corrupt. And any cop that attacks anyone for "no reason" are also corrupt.

I simply find the notion that cops are trying to rile up protesters to be illogical. From their perspective all that would do is make their job harder and put them in more danger. On what level would they benefit from something like starting a riot? I just don't see it. Yes, I guess you could say politicians benefit from protestors looking bad. But then what does it become? Some huge conspiracy where Trump is having his lackeys order the police to infiltrate protests to make them look bad to give him talking points? Nah. That's too much of a stretch. And even if it was true, wouldn't that just make the cops pawns and the politicians the actual bad guys?

If you think the idea of cops infiltrating organizations and encouraging violence is illogical then youll have to take that up with the long history of it happening.

Always with the sweeping generations and refusal to take context into consideration. In this situation there is no logic and no benefit to do such a thing. If anything, it is counterproductive to their best interests. It being beneficial to do something similar in other situations is completely irrelevant.
