This. Also TC, you wouldn't be missing out if you turned on 'no exp from weak monsters' or 'no buying stuff from stores.' You get all your best stuff from forging or gambling.

I kind of want to up the difficulty, but I already put so many hours into the game I don't want to restart.

My advice is just turn on everything since you can turn them off individually later if you find that it's too much.

I didn't but only because I preferred the static camera to 'jump all over the place for cinematic reasons' camera that you get when you turn it off.

I literally didn't realize it til the second time I went there waaaay later in the game

So my general feeling is... it's Dragon Quest. I don't expect it to reinvent the wheel but I'm not sure what's changed in terms of quality-of-life gameplay changes. The pep system is kinda suspect because there's no real control over it that I've seen (or maybe they explained it and I just wasn't following). The story is kinda boring and the cast isn't super interesting so far. I generally thought the introductions to the DQVIII cast were much, much better. The game is gorgeous, though. That's for sure.

I just did the silver cup in Gallopolis (I get it!) and unlocked some cool armor for the protagonist. Can the fun-size forge upgrade it so I can keep wearing it for a while because I like it more than the default look for him? I also made Serena a belly-dancer and I'm super happy about that.

Sylvando is so good. I don't see how it's possible to hate him unless you just hate "people like him." Well, as a character, I mean. His usefulness in battles waxes and wanes.

I can't lie, since I already compared this to DQVIII, but getting the boat for the first time in that game was super cool and this time it... kinda wasn't?

Like I thought rescuing Erik was gonna be a cool caper or dungeon sequence and it was just "nope, gonna walk around the back and have a boss fight."
