You know the rules. Post anything Geek related whether that be movies, television, comic book, video games, board games, etc. If it's Geek, we want to hear about it in this topic.

Per tradition we have an opening question to keep the topic going, and that question is:

If the Apocalypse happened, Zombie, Nuclear Winter, World Endind Disease, what part of the world would you set up your civilization in, in this newly broken world?

Bonus Question: What kind of society would you establish? Dictatorship, Democracy, Evil Council, Free For All?

Finally, what are your actual chances of survival based on your health, I intelligence, and overall mental and physical condition?

Wrap up from: Mobile Suit Geekdam in the following post. (Happy Holodays and Excelsior.)

And here we are. Let's get started.

If I survived (and, based upon my health, I wouldn't; I'd be one of the first ones dead), I'd set up a dictatorship based on natural resources down in (resource-rich) Australia.

Probably still America, for basic convenience. Honestly would also depend on what state the world is in.

The Wave Master posted...

Depends on the disaster. If it was a zombie or other infestation, a dictatorship or similar concentrated authority would make the most sense because you'd need to make fast, unilateral decisions.

Also democracy and evil council are somewhat redundant >_>

The Wave Master posted...
Finally, what are your actual chances of survival based on your health, I intelligence, and overall mental and physical condition?

Again, depends on the disaster and the state of the world. If it's a Last Man on Earth kind of situation, I'd probably be perfectly fine. Zombies would depend on how quickly I find survivors, how those survivors operate, and how quickly I could fortify an area then convert portions for sustainable farmland or something similar.

Also rebuilding a society is a lot harder than just bunkering down in an area, which *shouldn't* be terribly hard (at least for a while). And, of course, one big issue is if I got sick, I wouldn't have the medical knowledge to heal myself.

I'm eyeing some black Friday deals, and the boss has given me the okay to spend a little money. I'm looking at picking up The Shadow of the Colossus HD remake and Dragon Quest 11. I have not looked at all the seals, but those are the 2 best bangs for my limited bucks.

Thanksgiving dinner turned out quite well. The 3 day salt water and spice brine I put on my whole chicken made the best chicken that I have eve had. (That wasn't buttermilk fried by my southern black mama.) Plus The Cowboys and Saints won so it was a pretty great day overall.

I'd form a diminishing monarchy in which, during the time of my rule, I would implement a well-informed democratic system that would take effect once I'm through. I would make it mandatory for a license to vote, based on the passing of a simple test, one to reflect the person's ability to think critically, refuse bribery, and treat other people more affably than not.

I do not imagine the resulting society to be perfect, or to last forever, but I imagine it will be impactful throughout history, and necessary to the survival of mankind.

However, do not get me started on my contingency. I think, if it came to that, PO would rise from his robo graveyard to tell me to calm down a bit.

Obviously the best place to survive an apocalypse is on some island and it will be a theocracy where everybody will be forced to worship the Michelin Man. The sacred text will be some coloring book with squiggly lines written in it. There will be a democracy of some sorts where people vote for the person to be the human sacrifice to the Michelin Man where he/she will "ascend" by being necklaced with a "sacred" tire. Why the Michelin Man? Because there is bound to be some mother****er to do the same with some random car part he/she found in the ruins, might as well beat him by getting the most relatable mascot there is.

My mom and dad have been divorced since I was 10. He loved to smoke crack, she loved to drink alcohol, so their individual bad habits didn't line up. My mom eventually quit drinking, and my dad put down the crack pipe for good as well, and they went on with their lives.

My point is that I love my parents, as imperfect as they are, but I cannot have a 45 minute phone conversation with any one of them. My wife has been on the phone since we finished warming g up Thanksgiving leftovers, with her mom, and they do not seem to be talking about anything in particular. I have now finished watching a whole 2 quarters of this college football game.

How long can any of you speak with your parents on the phone before going insane?

Stopped at Best Buy today and picked up Pokemon Ultra Moon. They amusingly had no copies of Ultra Sun. Was tempted to pick up some cheap DVDs/BRs, but then I decided that I'd see what my brother has available on streaming because I don't want to bother buying extra something I could leech from him >_> I just keep forgetting to check his MyMovies thing or whatever to see what he actually has.

I did pick up the old Legend of Zelda tv show set at Wal-Mart for $4 and the Goosebumps movie for $2 (which I wound up liking when I saw it and... eh, $2).

Kinda kicking myself for not getting the ps4+Spidey deal, but it's nowhere near the regrets I had over missing that New 3DS deal last year.

For each new pair of Pokmon games, one is always harder to find than the other, usually the 'cooler' color (e.g. Blue as opposed to Red). Funny to see the reverse.

The missus and I always split the games up along these lines. She gets the warm colors, I get the cool colors. Managed to coordinate it that way since Diamond and Pearl.

My DVR decided that it would only display the shows it wanted me to watch, and not the shoes I actually recorded. Which means I missed last Tuesday's Smackdown. I guess the real issue is that I could have gone online and looked at the results, but I didn't care enough. That might be an issue.

In not too shocking news full copies of Smash Ultimate have leaked. Some were evil and will destroy your Switch, but generally the copies are legit. We can blame some distribution center in Mexico for the leak.

Honestly, I'm not a Smash fan, and I do not even own a Switch. I just don't care about the game, and there isn't s stage, song, or character that will get me invested in this franchise. It's not a traditional fighting game in my eyes, and the random nature of the gameplay take any skill out of the game, and thus my fun.

For the past week or so I have been rewatching the first twenty James Bond films (sans "Never Say Never Again"). I'm up to the Dalton movies now, and goodness I remember how I liked him least among the pre-Craig Bonds. Like, he scales up the asshole in both movies, throughout, more than Connery did in his more brutish scenes. Even Dalton's pun deliveries were aggressive and less than charming.

I also stand by Lazenby being a better Bond than people give him credit for. Was his delivery of lines spot-on? No. Did he at least carry the role? Sure, until he quit over petty reasons and burned that bridge with the films' producers. That's what people have to realize, is that Lazenby quit after one film, despite being contracted for several; Dalton was just unfit for the role.

I believe the technology to catalog or make conflict would grow with more certainty or haste than technology to conceivably help us all, superpowered or no. Politics would be much the same. Acts out of fear, anger, or damaged egos and pride tend to rush forward.

To go the route Marvel went with the "Days of Future Past" storyline where all mutants are hunted, rounded up, and forced into internment camps, one of the first things they did was find a couple of mutants with telepathy or mutant-detecting powers, collar and condition them, and then force them to hunt down their own kind. If superpowers exist across a wide enough spectrum, it's almost a given that eventually someone will develop the power to detect others who also have powers. And at least a few of them will almost certainly sell out their own kind for favors, or simply out of a sense of personal preservation.

On top of which, "mutant-detecting" technology already existed in-universe (a la Professor Xavier using Cerebro to locate mutants to recruit into the X-Men), and there's no reason why the government couldn't replicate that sort of technology for themselves. Issue special ops police with handheld scanners and use stronger, omni-directional scanners mounted in roving surveillance vans and you can cover most populated areas and detect potential superpowered beings no matter how well they keep under cover.

Of course, there's also the fact that, in any universe where people start manifesting unnatural super powers, scientific studies will begin almost immediately to analyze the nature of the empowered and determine the origin of the mutation (with the dual goals in mind of neutralizing powers in those who aren't authorized but also to help jumpstart powers in those you deem worthy - ie, controllable). And once you isolate the X-gene/metagene/Wild Card virus/etc in someone's biology, it would be incredibly easy to develop biochemical tests that can detect it - and from there it's a short hop to "Spit in this cup, we'll send it off for testing, and if you're cleared we'll issue you government-approved ID that says you're allowed to actually buy things and hold a job and otherwise live your life". That's something else that happened in the Marvel setting - everyone was forced into getting tested, and then sorted into "normal baseline human", "mutant", or "anomalous human" (ie, humans who weren't mutants and lacked powers, but had the potential to give birth to mutant children). And then mutants were forced to wear identifying marks at all times so everyone would know they were a mutant at a glance, and anomalous humans had most of the rights of normal humans, but weren't legally allowed to breed.

And that was in a setting before cell phones were ubiquitous and pretty much everyone leaves a digital trail a mile wide (even people who are "off the grid" but still get mentioned in other people's Facebook or Twitter posts, or go places with camera surveillance, are still more "on the grid" than they realize). It's pathetically easy to track people these days, cross-reference who has been "tested" and who hasn't, and track down violators who display any signs of possessing powers.

(Hell, the entire idea of the Batcave has been ridiculous since 2000 or so, as we now live in a world where satellites can read a license plate from space, and flying drones with cameras are a thing. The first time the Batmobile drives into a cave near Wayne Manor, his secret identity is pretty much fucked.)

Alrighty, so... Dalton was a bit more Bond-like in his second film, which was the one where, for plot reasons, he had more reason to be consistently angry or asshole-ish. Oh, and I'm not sure about the ending. It basically amounts to "Oh, your rogue vengeance quest is over, and everything is A-OK again, including possibly your job that you threw away earlier in the film." I've seen nonsensically happy endings, but come on.

That just leaves the Bosnan films, three of which I enjoyed when they came out, and one that was just really "meh." I'll let y'all guess which of the four that was. <_<

If you completely reverse that, it mostly sums up my views on Brosnan as Bond. Goldeneye was a damned good movie, Die Another Die was 7/8ths shit, and the other two were kind of bleh.

Which is a shame, because I like Brosnan AS Bond - he just got handed some really shitty scripts.

...which is how I tend to view Colin Baker's time as The Doctor, though in his case I think he actually had a lot more good episodes than most people give him credit for.

Criag's alright for the direction they went for the reboot, though the scripts and plot were underwhelming after "Casino Royale."

Anyone got any cool ideas for a fantasy tavern? I'm kind of trying to think of traditional medieval-pub flavor names for a tavern in a game and I'm rolling ideas around in my head. If somebody else comes up with an awesome one, though, I might steal it.

I have a very, very soft spot in my heart for View to a Kill. I know part of that is childhood nostalgia, part of that is because it's campy as fuck and I get a kick out of that sort of thing, and part of it is because I had/have Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style books based on it as a kid (the Find-Your-Fate series had 4 books, the first three of which adapted aspects of the movie plot, and the fourth had an unrelated adventure in the tropics - http://gamebooks.org/Series/159 ). And also, Duran Duran.

Goldeneye might actually be my favorite film overall, though.

Quick random RP question:

Anyone got any cool ideas for a fantasy tavern? I'm kind of trying to think of traditional medieval-pub flavor names for a tavern in a game and I'm rolling ideas around in my head. If somebody else comes up with an awesome one, though, I might steal it.

A dolphin that has been brought back to life by an asshole necromancer hung up right above the bar.

On the bright side, this could potentially make for an interesting lie detector test.

If you're lying to deceive someone, you're not thinking hard enough.

I meant names.

I suppose The Undead Dolphin is an option, but a bit off-brand, as it were.
