I don't mind all hazards but some are really bad. Like the Pokemon stage with Dialga and Palkia (spear pillar I think is the name) is basically unplayable in its normal state.

I did like the thing in New Pork City that ate you though. That was helpful for me.

Lol. I actually don't mind him. It's just the stage that's way too fucking big that I hate. I hate that palutena stage too that's just massive.

Items can be fun in bigger games with a lot of chaos but for the most part I prefer no items

What an unbelievable game..... Fuck. All we had to do was stop Mahomes on 4th and 9 near the end of the 4th, but we didn't pressure, he had time to run around and found Hill running open. A tie would have been funny, but that wasn't happening.

I get that many of the items are annoying, but like... is the "purist" competitive mentality really drifting into the casual scene that much? Pretty much everybody I've played with before IRL doesn't care about having items on. It's okay if you lose on some dumb bullshit once in a while, it's just for fun. Are you guys hoping to go pro or some shit

I mean I think we would all agree that playing Mario Kart without items would be stupid and the items in that are waaaay more bullshit than Smash. Granted, I'll give you that's a bit of a different thing since items are pretty much essential for the stragglers to have a chance of catching up. But that's also another part of what makes the MK items annoying, since people who suck get really good ones, but Smash items are distributed randomly.

And I don't really care that much if people like turning items off, it's just when they think it's "supposed" to be played like that which is annoying. I also think it's fair to have a different take on it whether it's 1v1 or a big FFA

Unless you're saying nobody here has made it, then okay. And sure, I'm not that good at any Smash game past 64, but most of the time the better skilled players are going to win anyway with items on. I don't like them as a crutch, I like them because I think they're fun

You're right, people do say it's better without items, because it obviously is if you're interested in smash as a fighting game and not a sub for Mario kart at a party (which it's also a far inferior party game because the skill gap is extremely high in smash) But you are allowed to play how you want and no one would dream of saying otherwise.

I'm just jealous that you guys are playing it and I still have to wait three or more days

I don't like to think outside the box so I'd probably just predict the same stuff that everyone has already mentioned/spread rumors about before. Steve, Banjo, Isaac and Geno. I know you're joking with your list but Crash doesn't seem all that out there to me

Edit: Actually Steve is like the only one that makes much sense because why would you make DLC of a legacy character instead of something that is actually recent? Though I guess since Cloud was DLC anything is possible

I like items and stage hazards, because I never get to play them because all of my friends say no to them.

Actually, I prefer a mix of both. The unpredictability of the stage hazards plus the items can make it fun, but everyone knows those matches aren't for realsies so I don't get upset if I lose. Then after the chaos I can whoop some ass with no items.

Neither of you guys picked Waluigi, eh?

Waluigi is an assist trophy which seems to be taken as a sign that they won't be a playable character. Though now that I think about it I might have heard that Isaac is an assist trophy too, in which case replace him with Crash I guess

I would pay $100 for this. His Final Smash is he turns the enemy into a door and roundhouse kicks it open.

I'm surprised they haven't done more Final Fantasy characters. That's a goldmine, and they already got whatever licensing is required to have Cloud, so you'd think it wouldn't be that much more difficult to get Sephiroth or Auron or one of the many non sword-wielding FF characters.

Here is my take on items:
I've always been fairly casual with the smash games...I have played them quite a bit, but have never been any good. Items can be fun, but for me personally it's way more fun to play without them. When items are on it just feels like instead of learning how to use your character and abilities to win, the focus is on rushing toward items when they spawn and using them to win. It really seems like the game isn't balanced around items, and sometimes a really strong one is gonna spawn near you and will swing the balance in your favor.. I'm fine with getting my ass kicked, demonstrated by the fact that I keep playing with Kevin and Brian, but I'd rather lose by abilities than items 10/10 times.

I understand where you're coming from, and I do feel like that a litle bit, but I always play without the star power, hammer and the health recovery ones because those are OP. I feel like the rest of them can be played around.

My only reason for guessing these guys is that they're all from brand new series for Smash. Capcom has been a generous partner so far and if they want an RE character Leon makes the most sense. He's probably the most popular one and has a strong Nintendo connection.

Even though it is definitely OP, I kinda liked the hammer in 64 just for the sake of trying to KO somebody who thought they were invincible with it. But IIRC they progressively nerfed it as the series went on so it wasn't really even fun to use or to try to counter. I agree about the star and recovery ones being kind of lame (food is okay, but hearts and maxim tomatoes are annoying)

He's probably now the worst player in the hall. He had like two or three years where he played at an almost elite ish level. If he's the standard the standard is now so low that you should probably let in Jacoby Ellsbury and you should definitely let Ryan Braun in

He's a guy that was never really amazing but he was consistently above average for so long and managed to accumulate some pretty solid numbers in a lot of categories

Fine career. Nowhere near hall worthy.

Also I feel like the standard has changed a lot. A current player retiring now with his numbers probably wouldnt get in but still a 22 year career as consistent as his is pretty impressive

A player like him would wash out before year 22 now because everyone knows that type of guy is a dime a dozen. His best asset was his health.

His WAR is about the same as Tulo and Ryan Zimmerman. Then you get into the guys above him who are still solidly not HoF guys (I mean, most of them, obviously like Trout and a few others are)

Also FWIW he was a veteran's committee selection and I thought those guys were usually not as good. Not that I'm excusing it but I don't know if I'd say it makes that the "standard", though feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

You're right about the veterans committee and we all knew Lee Smith was getting in because of them (his admittance isn't egregious imo without looking into it) but I'm still shocked by this, it never even occurred to me that this would happen
