I know I am reading way too far into the story of mega man game. However Doctor Light seems to the person in the wrong here. Wily wants to the keep Robots as just tools to do things with. However Light seems to be wanting to give them their own emotions and feelings. Yet after they get these things, they will be assigned to do the manual labor. He is kind of making a slave class, while Wily just wants to make tool.

I think Light probably envisions more robots like Rock who are all-purpose, gifted with free will, and able to do what they enjoy, joining humans as equals.

You know, it's never really made clear just how much free will they have. Mega Man X's mavericks are supposed to be way more advanced than any characters in classic Mega Man, as they're such advanced robots that they're basically humans for all intents and purposes.

Rock was built to be a foster son for Dr. Light, but then converted into a combat robot when Light had no other choice. The other robots were all built to serve in industry, so they had AI, but it's debatable as to how much free will they had.

Then again, I'm not sure if they retconned any of that, I still haven't beaten 11. I haven't really enjoyed it to be brutally honest :\

Don't blame you. The new mechanics are okay, but the graphical style is straight-up ugly and the music is so boring and uninspired. Music is so crucial in Mega Man games, but it really fell flat here.

Like you didn't like the bad guys being too cute or something? (honest question not trying to be sarcastic)

But anyway I've always been under the impression the robots had like Futurama sentience at least the ones like Bender and other main characters. The ones that do the job they were programmed to just enjoy doing it. Save for certain examples like Tundra Man.
