Cool things only become good if they end up in a workable product. The way the game looks it's still more than one year away from release, which seems ridiculous for what was originally supposed to release in like 2014

It maybe will one day come out and be the most epic, widest scope videogame ever made and be heralded in 100 years as one of the best games that was ever made.

But I don't think it's coming out.

What is it. The game has feature creep thats out of control and is too ambitious to ever see the light of day?

Or should it have been rushed out the door years ago?

This is really one of those situations where it'd be better to just release SOMETHING fun and playable and start working on the sequel right away if it turns out people actually want more.

Sort of a Kingdom Hearts situation, there's no reason to wait 14 freaking years when they could have released 2-3 high quality NUMBERED games in this time and made $ plus kept the fans happy

You know theres a working alpha that is growing all the time, right?

The bits and pieces Ive played of it has been some of the most interesting Ive experience in my gaming career. The game shows serious promise.

Development hell is literally always categorized with huge periods of silence, and you have no idea whats going on with the game.

SC is very much the opposite of that. Also a bad game is bad forever etc etc etc. All that shit.

If there was radio silence on this game I might actually be worried. Clearly theyre on a steady course and the game is coming along.

Look I dont necessarily agree with it but Im not gonna be another negative Nancy in a sea of them.

Im willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and see where it goes. I think everyone should want this game to do well. No?

And like I said. The bits I have played have been so interesting and promising that I can have a little more faith they might be able to pull this off.

Is it? That's news to me. As I understand it, development hell is just when a project stagnates and goes into limbo for long periods of time with no clear outcome in sight. I'd say that's bang on what's happening here.

8 years dude. The Witcher 3 was built in 3 years. The Burj Khalifa was built in 6. We're kind of beyond the point of "good things take take time". I'll wait 30 minutes for a great meal at a restaurant. I won't wait 3 weeks.

The genuine concern here is that they're going to have the same situation that happened to Duke Nukem Forever - a game will be released with features and graphics embarrassingly outdated because by the time they finished the game the engine was old tech.

If there was radio silence on this game I might actually be worried. Clearly theyre on a steady course and the game is coming along.

I'm not sure if releasing cosmetic features like FOIP is what I'd categorise as progress when enormous gameplay mechanics seem to be fundamentally missing still but I can agree that they've made more progress in the last year than they have in the previous 6 combined.

Stagnate:
cease developing; become inactive or dull.

Like Prey 2 when they went radio silent forever and just dropped the project

Or like FFXV, aptly named because it changed 15 times over the course of its long ass development, each categorized by huge periods where no one had any idea what the fuck was going on with it.

Or the Last Guardian which we simply saw glimpses of at E3's for years, and then huge stretches of literally nothing in between.

How is this at all news to you? It's all very well documented and in literally ever case.

What a nonsense statement.

If it ends up coming out and being good. Who gives a fuck how long it took to get there? You losing sleep over it? I'm certainly not. It's curious to me how some people ride this line of like "This game has taken so long already, I'm so over it" But also not shying away from hearing more about it, consuming pieces of media and engaging in the discussions and all that shit.

If there's some arbitrary window in your mind that they missed, I really don't see why you should care at all if and when it does get released.

sunk cost fallacy at work. Plus the company is constantly coming up with new and inventive ways to scrape cash out of people. They ran a convention for a few years, then they opened up a UK office to get tax incentives from the government for being a "UK game developer" and now they're charging people to watch their streams (which used to be free).

It's not mutually exclusive, though. The longer a game is in production, the more it's going to cost. The more it costs, the less likely it is to break even without predatory game practices.

Well their business model is already as predatory as I think it gets for a crowd funded game

I'd tend to agree, but I don't know enough about the game to really weigh in. I'm just saying that it's not either "release a buggy, unfinished game" or "spend a decade in development". Both are pretty bad scenarios to be in, honestly.

That's a false dilemma in the sense that those are not the only two ways to feel about it. I think most people want it to fail because they feel like the business model is predatory and that the promises made are purposefully deceitful in order to secure more pledges. Even if it turns out to be good, people may still feel cheated.

I splashed $20 a few years ago. At this point I'd honestly like to see a feature freeze until there's an actual, refined, gold version out, then it can be expanded on some more.

Being in continuous alpha is a little concerning, especially with feature creep. The optics aren't very good on it - "alpha" implies perpetual instability to the public.

Does that really have any baring on the quality of the game though.

There are some people out there who have put literally thousands of dollars into a game like Overwatch. There are people out there willing to spend insane levels of money on a silly game. Does it actually have any baring on the game itself? Not really.
