A recent statistic has shown that 60% of active US Troops are FAT or OBESE as the startling new data is showing a dire situation as american soldiers are turning into hippos and are struggling to recruit able young and fit service members!!

The figures emerged from a study of 18,000 troops in the Army, Navy, Coastal Guard, Air Force and Marines.

In EVERY branch, more than 60% of them were fatties based on their Body Mass Index and the figure is the HIGHEST where 69.4% met the threshold.

It also shows that they are not getting enough sleep as 9% have to take sleep medications.

All of these recruits were at least 20 years old and it remains to be seen if their conditon was down to the fact that they are younger and belong to the LESS ATTRACTIVE generation of recruits and the military is now having to pluck from.

It had to lower its recruitment target goals and a Marine Commandment policy complained that fewer than 30% of today's youth are qualified to enlist.

1/3 have to use a dietary supplement and binge drinkers as 35% were guilty of hazardous drinking..

Like everywhere else, the popularity of E-Cigarette smoking is on the rise and 35% of troops are using it.

They are struggling to find good recruits and it's not just down to a small pool available but the fact that there are more jobs going around for young people. Only in poor economic times is the military a safe option for hobos but not anymore.

A growing economy comes from more competition and the army is losing it to them

On the positive side, younger people are getting SMARTER as a result

Percentage of Fatties:

Army: 69.4%

Coast Guard: 69.4%

Navy: 64.6%

Air Force: 63.1%

Marine Corps: 60.9%

Would you have a problem with fat soldiers protecting your country?

First thoughts on my mind. The medical definition of obese seems too black and white.

I saw an article showing a person dressed up as Santa Claus and the other dressed as Tarzan. According to the BMI Tarzan is as 'out of shape' as Santa if you use the weight/height calculations and not your vision. I'd much rather look like Tarzan than Jolly Old Saint Nick.

Its honestly probably this. I knew some seriously fat pieces of shit when I was in the army, but if youre gonna go only off BMI youre not going to get accurate numbers.

My last two years I had to be taped every PT test because I was considered overweight while being <10% body fat.

I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this who will count the votes, and how.

Everybody in the AF has to be taped for our PT test. It's now part of it. Luckily, I'm pretty skinny, so I get max points...

This. And they're all clearly still passing their PT tests. There's a lot more vitriol in this post than most others. Did duckbear wash out of boot camp or something?

That's actually super surprising to me. I lost like 20 pounds in bootcamp because it's literally all cardio.
I guess this is partially due to the higher ranking guys not doing the same amount (any) PT.

From what I remember about basic was that everybody over a certain weight lost pounds, where everybody under a certain weight gains pounds. I gained a good amount, but I was like super skinny before. And most guys like me probably put on muscle(except for one small guy who just put on a lot of pounds, but it was most likely fat. Not trying to be mean, though.

But the part about higher ranking guys not doing PT is most likely correct. That being said, on my base, barely anyone did it. And when ever they try to make PT mandatory, it turns out badly. And usually, it's mostly lower ranking guys for many different reasons ranging from waivers to my shop needs me to I just don't want to go...

I don't know anyone who gained weight in bootcamp. We ran miles and miles and did nothing that would promote weight gain.

I think the gain was usually muscle. It's was only the smaller guys. Like the ones who couldn't really afford to lose weight. Haha. I'm like 5'3 and weight probably 100 or so joining up. I don't think losing weight would have been healthy. But gaining weight would, especially if I gained muscle...

It's because they put everyone on the same regiment of eating, sleeping, and training. It 100 makes sense that the weight of everyone would normalize (the fat people lose weight and the skinny people gain weight). It's all about net energy balance, there's actually very little difference in basal metabolism from person to person.

That's what we noticed in basic. When we all started to realize that we were all heading to a certain weight.
