A USPS worker in New Jersey dumped HUNDREDS of letters and packages in New Jersey before handing in his resignation to QUIT his job!!

The discarded mail was found abandoned in River Road by a pedestrian who shared the picture on facebook leaving all those letters for anyone to steal..

He wrote "If you're looking for your mail it maybe on river road by 36st station..share this post ppl information is out on the street"

The mail was dated August 8th and had been out for delivery from Roxborough Station Post Office in Philadelphia as Special Agent Scott Balfour of the USPS Office of Inspector General said they tracked down the employee who did this but they had already quit and is left unidentified

No charges have been made and the police do not anticipate further action.

Would you be mad if this was your letter/package in there?.

Is there really not a law against this? Like why are they not arresting this guy?

I find that hard to believe, unless it's in USPS workers' contracts that they aren't actually responsible for getting the mail to its intended recipient. There's no way there isn't going to be some monetary cost associated with this move. Even if they did dispatch somebody to check the packages immediately and they confirmed that none were missing, that's still a cost, and he certainly endangered the property.

That said, any monetary action would probably be a civil matter rather than a criminal one, so I guess there might not need to be charges laid or any further police action. *Shrug*

I was always led to believe that tampering with the mail was a federal offense. And before anyone says that it isn't tampering, I think actively preventing the mail from reaching its proper destination should fall under that.

Uh, why the fuck not? That seems like criminal misconduct, especially given the countless laws involving mail tampering.

So it's a felony to steal someone's mail, but it's perfectly fine for an employee to just be completely irresponsible and leave it on the side of the road for literally anyone to find

They probably will. I think the detail is in what isn't said, the police aren't anticipating further action. Most likely because they aren't really involved, this will be an investigation through the USPIS.
