1:30 on the timer so far. I've played past the intro and have now left the village, where I spent 30 minutes killing slimes to reach L5.

Apparently I'm the reincarnation of some great hero and I'm off to see the king. I also made my childhood sweetheart cry.

Spent another couple of hours playing, hit L8 and went to the first kingdom.

So the king decided that having the Hero of Light or whatever around is a bad thing, because clearly me being around around means the Big Bad is also going to show up. So I got locked up and sentenced to death, but another prisoner helped me escape. After a bit of stealth in the sewers and a running minigame when I found a dragon, that happened easily enough. Now I'm leveling up Erik so he can keep up with Delta.

I ordered it last night after seeing all the hype. I got left behind on the Persona 5 train, so it'll be fun to be on the relative cutting edge for this game.

Fighting the itch to go see if I can get a copy of this despite not having pre-ordered it.

6:45 on the clock, both Delta and Erik are sitting at L11. I've now unlocked the forge and crafted some enhanced equipment. This should be quite useful.

Since escaping the city, I returned to the village to kind the king had his soldiers destroy it for having me, and no signs of life remain. Went with Erik to collect some orb he wanted, then went through some warp gate that sent me elsewhere, while escaping from the king's men once again. Seems he has really convinced them that I am pure evil. If JRPGs gave me free will, I'd be tempted to make that a self fulfilling prophecy.

9 hours now. Got a pair of magical sisters on my team now. Delta and Eric at L13, the sisters at L12.

Found one of them looking for the other, went to hunt for her in some dungeon. Killed a monster for using too many pottery puns.

Did a bit of grinding, with everyone around L17 now. Reached the next kingdom.

Gotta replace someone and go horse racing.

L19 at this point. Ready to leave the kingdom.

Beaten the horse race with first place, beaten a giant scorpion and found a spot with Metal Slimes, so I might stick around a while.

Okay, did some grinding. 15 hours on the game clock now. Got my 5th party member when I left the city, and he will likely just sit on the sidelines leaching EXP from my fights. My party is now around L23.

Time to move on.

Moved on with the story. Hit L24.

Reached the next town, cured a boy of a curse, got attacked by the knights from the first kingdom, escaped and got the ship. Time to start sailing.

I've played Dragon Quest before, I know what to expect. I already owned I - IX along with about half of the spinoffs. :P

Anyway, 22 hours on the clock and L26 characters. I'm actually wondering how far I am in the game now. Finished 15 / 26 side quests and around half the map seems to have been visited as well. Anyone here got a rough idea of how long this game is?

So between exploring all the new locations I could visit to hit all of the side quests so far, I've found myself in a fighting tournament to win some item my party needs, find myself fighting a giant arse spider monster and then can't claim my prize because it has been stolen. I've been told to visit the ruins of the kingdom destroyed at the start of the game if I want it.

Same here, but I thought that was worth noting in a game where the encounters are otherwise pick-and-choose for the player.

Most folks I have seen here who have completed the game put the completion time between 70 and 100 hours.

Guess the side quests are finished up pretty early then.

L27 now. 25 hours. Got my next two party members.

Meet my grandfather and the princess that supposedly died. Now hunting for the Infinity Stones.

Did a bunch of stuff for a mermaid, and got to visit their kingdom.

L35, 39 hours on the clock

Went on to Yggdrasil, got attacked by Jasper, the King of Heliodor comes up and we find out he was possessed by the big bad all along, he steals the power of the Luminary from the hero, uses it to access the Sword of Light, corrupts that and then uses it to destroy the heart of Yggdrasil, which is the source of all life.

So basically, fuck. End of the world.

She got the bunny girl outfit, of course they did. I like the dancer outfit myself though.

Anyway, so I'm now at level 37 after 42 hours.

The world got FUBAR. Somehow I survived thanks to the mermaid queen, who protected me while I healed, but they found none of my friends with me, so I'm all alone. They got me back to land before they were attacked by the forces of darkness.

The land is now under eternal darkness, no light to be seen. Monsters cover the land. Most people died, but a few survivors have gathered together under some hero in the ruins of the starting town.

Turns out it is Hendrik, one of the jerks that was chasing me for the first part of the game. Unlike his friend, he wasn't evil at least. He protected a bunch of people since shit happened. And turns out the original members of the village survived.

Anyway, after facing down an attack by undead hordes, me and Hendrik went to Castle Heliodor to see if we could do anything about the darkness. Broke in through the sewers, made a detour to murder the dragon I had to run from early in the game, killed a fuckton of monsters on my way to the throne room and found a corrupted Jasper, all tainted flesh and bat wings. Hendrik fights a bit, then Jasper leaves and we deal with the monster left in charge. Obviously we beat him, light returns to the land of Heliodor, and we return to the village as heroes. Now we have been told to return Light to the rest of the world. But first I'm going to visit all the previous areas so I can fast travel to them again.

I just found one of my old party. The gay jester. He is scaring the new guy by being his regular fabulous self. Like really scaring him. This game is fucking awesome.

Been exploring the world. Got 4 of my 8 party members with me. Found a 5th in the town I reached, but time for bed.

The game is over a year old already given the Japanese release date. They got it in July 2017. If the quest was going to be changed, it would have been done before coming here.

So been travelling the world to get back everyone, reached the last town where I was expecting to find Veronica.

After 59 hours and hitting L46 with Hero, I'm sitting at the end of the game. I've been told I can now go and attack the Big Bad.

But before I do that, I'm going to work on side quests (31 / 45 done) and spend time grinding against Metal enemies.

There is post game story, and plenty of extra stuff like monster and gear lists, so I can keep going after. Part of the set of trophies involves maxing out levels for everyone and farming Skill Seeds so they can learn all their skills.

At 39 hours and L35, I finished the first half of the game. Second half was done at 67 hours and L53. Playing on default difficulty. Now on the post game so even more content.

Started the post game

Travelled back in time, stopped the big bad before they could destroy the world as mentioned in post #23, everyone lived, but without the big bad to stop it, a bigger bad crashed into the earth and now I need to find a way to stop that thing.
