Yay I havent got to start one of these in a while so here is the initiative I would like to enact, of course you dont have to....but Id like if you'd participate :)

Why doesn't everyone attempt to put together a top 10 list, so that we can see what everyone thinks are the best anime.

If you find it hard to choose just 10 then try doing a top 20. You don't have to order them individually, for example I make my tiers in groups of 10.

Top anime 1-10:
-Steins;Gate
-Code Geass
-Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
-Attack on Titan/
-Parasyte
-Seven Deadly Sins/
-Psycho Pass
-One Punch Man/
-Made in Abyss
-Baccano!

Top anime 11-20:
-Civilization Blaster
-Food Wars/
-Hero Academia
-Samurai Champloo
-Monogatari
-Mushishi
-Mob Psycho 100
-Kids on the Slope
-Kill La Kill
-Re:zero/

Go ahead, criticize my list, question it, comment or counter with own list.

Though I defiently need some feedback.

For example Attack on Titan I dont like as much as I used to, so its going to have to trade places with a show from the second tier.
Also perhaps Seven Deadly Sins needs to drop a bit too, or I should just break up seasons into different entries.

idk, that just makes it harder. I haven't watched that much stuff I'd consider contenders for best anime. Only two things to immediately jump to mind are Gundam 0080 and Genshiken.

Yay, new topic.

Top Ten in no order:

One Piece
Hellsing Ultimate
Hunter x Hunter
Your Lie in April
Beck
FLCL
Hikaru no Go
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
One Punch Man
Boku no Hero Academia

There's plenty more I love and some might even deserve to be in my top 10, but it's really hard to choose, especially when you've seen a lot.

Bebop can have weird moods, but it's fun overall. I should rewatch Champloo. I got the dvd boxset a long time ago and I don't think I ever even watched through them all the way.

Ninja Scroll is not to all tastes, as it is the definitive '90s anime (i.e. blood, gore, naughty bits, and what have you; it was instrumental to the "anime is not for kids" movement). Tylor, on the other hand, is equal parts hilarious, awesome, and touching, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

No way I can list any definitive top anything except maybe top 1 and even then it kinda depends so I'll just list and talk about some of my favorites.

Monogatari series. I currently say this is my favorite anime. It's one of the few anime to be both incredibly unique and incredibly well produced. It's still an absolute mystery to me how this managed to become very popular. It feels as niche as texnolyze or SEL or something and yet it keeps selling like hotcakes and getting more made. I'm not complaining though. Owarimonogatari S2 especially is my favorite ending of any anime. Like, the whole season. It was all just a perfect wrap up of everything, at least for me.

I'm a little unusual in that I like nisemono best and like monogatari second season the least. Seems to be the opposite reaction of just about everyone else. I can't wait for more.

Code geass was my previous number 1 anime and its still up there. It's also the anime I've rewatched the most (I think I've seen it about 7 times). It has everything. Comedy, action, drama, FEELS, strategy, tactics, waifus, pizza, and so much dramatic flair. The sound design especially is easy to not focus on but I think it's what ties it all together. Theres honestly so much I could talk about here. I feel like lelouch is the correct version of light yagami (from death note). Also JYB as lelouch takes that character to the top. Aside from the ambiguity leading to a season 3 it was also my favorite ending up until owarimonogatari. Very cautiously optimistic about upcoming S3.

Legend of the galactic heroes also occupied my top spot for a time. There really is no story on as grand a scale. It was great on every level really. For a show with so much polictics, it manages to stay impressively impartial. It's almost like watching a documentary on the romance of the three kingdoms or the warring states era, just more interestingly handled and with more thematic weight. It does kinda get boring at times though. Also kinda feel like a certain character not dying would have made the show better in the long run. Oh well.

HXH 2011. I credit it as the only good shonen. Thats somewhat hyperbole but I feel like it really manages to actually solve almost every problem that plagues shonen. It feels like something that almost anybody would like as long as they aren't put off by the episode count. In recent years we have really seen the value of putting out shonen seasonally so they can maintain good pacing and production quality but somehow hxh 2011 actually managed to have it all with a nearly 150 episode run AND solid pacing as well good production quality.

Neon Genesis Evangelion. It has almost everything I came to anime to find in the first place. As a teenager especially I was very into the psychological and philosophical anime out there, especially the dark ones and I feel like this one is still the best. It also just has this really unique atmosphere. I've never really seen anyone talk about that. Just the way its filmed and how they talk and the noises and stuff make it feel unique in a way that I think really compliments what the show is all about. The main message of the show also resounds so powerfully for me. I've been depressed and had trouble connecting plenty. It's just kind of the perfect look at that with the message that even though it's all painful and difficult, it's still worth it, and presented in a way that feels earned and not patronizing.

Made in Abyss is something I sorta feel like I shouldn't put on a top list yet, but only because its not over and the ending will be so very important. Theres nothing in all of anime that I'm more curious about than what is at the bottom of the abyss. On the other hand, that means it better be fucking good. I kinda feel like I'm setting my expectations impossibly high but thats the shows fault for being so good. Favorite soundtrack in all of anime. Kevin Pinkin did such a great job.

Character limit approaching so thats all for now.

The next nine in no particular order:

Yuyu Hakusho
G Gundam
Kill la Kill
Eureka Seven
HxH 2011
FMA Brotherhood
Outlaw Star
Hellsing Ultimate
Gurren Lagann

If we were including manga, then One Piece, My Hero Academia, and Death Note would be up there as well.

Mirai Nikki
To Aru Majutsu no Index/Kagaku no Railgun
Accel World
No Game No Life
Gosick
Kuroshitsuji
Soul Eater
Nanatsu no Taizai
Death Note

I say more or less because I'm not sure about the order. Also, currently watching Re:Zero, and that will probably get in there when I finish. There are some others I really like a lot, such as Trinity Seven, Guilty Crown and Densetsu no Yusha no Densetsu, buuuuut... it's kind of a guilty pleasure.

I'll work on a list when I get a chance, but this weekend I'm doing Comic Con. It really snuck up on me this year because it's usually in October or November.

Im really glad that it's actually happening in my town again. This is the fifth time it's come to my state; the first three times it was here in my town, but last year it was in Oklahoma City.

I thought something was strange the third year because it seemed a little smaller and more low-profile then before, and sure enough it was gone the next year. But I discussed it with the other volunteers, and we knew we had a responsibility to put our best foot forward restore some faith in our city. Even in OKC, I saw several of the same volunteer faces from home, hard at work. So I like to think we played a part in the decision to move back here.

I'm horrible at these lists because my viewings of anime are so erratic, and I also have a bad habit of never finishing most shows I start. Here are the ones that are definitely up there:

FullMetal Alchemist
Cowboy Bebop
Hunter x Hunter
One Punch Man
Seven Deadly Sins
Dragon Ball Z
Yu Yu Hakusho
Trigun
Attack on Titan
Inuyasha

As a side note, why do so many people prefer FMA Brotherhood? I think the original is far superior. It's not even just a great anime, but a great show regardless of type or genre.

There are a lot of people who prefer the original series. Personally I thought it was a bit too melodramatic and I didn't care for the direction they took the story near the end.

IMO Brotherhood had a better story and better action, and I liked that there was actually some decent comic relief occasionally.

Kinda where I'm at. Favorites I could probably list out to 30 or 40. Best I can only think of 1 or 2 anime max and, even among those, I would doubt that they're the best ever created, they would just rank well, though.

And, honestly, as things currently stand, a lot of the anime listed so far has more been popular than good (although, at least some of those cases, you could instead argue on the merits of influence, etc, even if the quality wasn't there)

Most of the good anime out there got pretty popular IMO. Usually right under the shonen hype and idol shows in japan. I'm kinda hard pressed to think of anything I thought was really great that ended up being unsuccessful.

Also I too prefer the original FMA to brotherhood. It felt more mystery horror compared to the more blatantly shonen action of brotherhood. Also much prefer the origin of homunculus in the original.

It's a little crazy to me how much hate the original gets in some circles. That anime was in a LOT of top favorite lists before brotherhood came out.

It's more a matter of it being the popular stuff that truly makes it big while great shows either fly under the radar or have limited success. The handling of Genshiken is a good example, since it had a first season, then a bunch of OVAs, and then a greatly abridged second season -- which, all things considered, still has a nice cap for the show even if the manga went longer.

I maintain you need to watch both. The original anime does the start way better because everything is being established. But it was finishing before the manga was ending so the the later parts are lackluster. While Brotherhood rushes through the beginning because it's something that was already done in the original but the later parts are much better.

Comic Con ended a bit anticlimactically for me, thanks to a late start Sunday and not much work to do. Before my shift started I was browsing booths, and this guy running an autograph stand was being kind of a butt. I was really only browsing out of curiosity, but he was being really pushy and asking me what shows/actors I was looking for, and I'm not good with aggressive tactics like that so I got roped in for a few minutes.

Then I guess he didn't see me when I started looking through one folder of pictures, because he snapped and said I wasn't supposed to touch them. He kept asking me what I was looking for, so at that point I just walked away. It soured my mood for a while, but then later during my shift I ran into his assistant, and she apologized for the way he was acting so that helped a lot.

Not much interaction with any stars (although I very briefly worked with Uhura), and there weren't even very many panels this year. But one of the highlights of my weekend was Friday, when the volunteers didn't have anything to do after signing in, so a bunch of us walked over to a nearby restaurant for lunch. I wasn't going go go at first because I didn't know any of them very well (and many of them seemed to be close), but I realized something like this with people who share my interests was exactly what I've been wanting, because I don't have.. well, any friends.

So I went along, tried my best to be social, and had a good time. And amazingly, one of the guys paid the tab for the whole crew. Really great guy; we were all floored. They were all good people even if we're all from different walks of life, and I go some of their Facebooks so I might try to keep in contact.

That can't possibly be legal.

Oh, trust me, it ain't. Haha.

Thumbs up for a (generally) positive con experience, though.

Wrapping up the school festival arc of Academia. (Maybe not wrapping up; I just finished 1A's event.) That really was a good villain.

Also ran into someone at work who had this glorious tattoo:

You're talking about Gentle Criminal? He was probably one of the most likable "villains" in the series so far.

After watching a lot of FMA:B clips on YT (and probably spoiling half the show for me), finally decided to just watch the thing while I was looking through my queue to find something interesting.

The first episode has thus far been unbelievably rocky. Thankfully, I *know* it gets better.

Unusual to see this topic go quiet for more than a day.

The Persona 5 anime wrapped up today with Episode 24. I remember being excited about that show in the beginning, but I find myself in no hurry to watch the finale. *shakes head* A-1 Pictures dropped the ball. Still beats the Devil Survivor 2 anime, though.

Been preoccupied by Dragon Quest XI, anyway. Fantastic game.

Yeah, I was going to give a FMA:B update the other night and then yesterday I got sidetracked by Bojack.

They *really* downgraded Basque Gran's role in FMA:B. I liked him as a minor antagonist in FMA. Of course, the really weird thing is -- and I didn't finish the Shou Tucker episode the other night -- but I just glanced at the end to see if they'd changed anything and I *seemed* to recall something along those lines happening in FMA while, at the same time, I although could have sworn he got arrested instead, after which they claimed he was executed but he turns out to be alive and running experiments. I *kinda* want to check the wikipedia page for Tucker but I don't want to spoil anything if he does come back

tbh, hadn't realized that Shou Tucker was voiced by the same guy who played Shin-chan's dad (apparently true of *both* versions of FMA). Not sure if I didn't see Shin-chan until after FMA, but that voice was instantly recognizable even though I haven't watched Shin-chan in maybe a decade.

Otherwise I really dislike the handling of flashbacks, etc, in FMA:B. They go to a lot of effort to show stuff that's better left unshown or just said. At most, they should have just shown a brief clip of Ed's failed human transmutation.
