46 y/o John Derby, a Kansas Teacher has committed SUICIDE after he was being investigated for child pornography when the police came to raid his home and confiscated his electronics.

The art teacher at Olate East High School was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head and his body was found 21 miles from his home.

Police had a warrant to search his apartment for child porn and took his computer but criminal charges were not being filed because he's now dead but the investigation will still continue to identify victims IF it is found.

It's not known yet if any vicitms found on his computer were from the school district or lived near his apartment where he resided as it's possible he downloaded it off the internet too

Do you think his suicide is an admission to guilt?.

John - Deceased

It's not necessarily an admission of guilt. Some of these people are likely on the brink as it is, and one little nudge could be all it takes. On the other hand, the majority of the time they probably are guilty, so eh.

I'd say so. Unless he had depression and/or some other mental illness before this.

Technically not an admission of anything, although it doesn't look too good.

This. With how damaging even the suspicion of such crimes against children can be, I could see someone who is wholly innocent committing suicide as a result of simply being suspected. So many are quick to judge and vilify, especially these days with social media.

But, they must've had a reason for suspicion, and as they say, where there's smoke...

For all the Japanese-lovin' weebs here you'd think a lot more people would be in line with the Japanese on this issue.

Considering that even the accusation can ruin a person's life, I wouldn't automatically assume guilt. It kinda depends on how the case came to exist. Plus it's worth noting that malicious software has used peoples' computers to download CP for hackers.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/computer-virus-victims-framed-for-child-porn-1.851399

That's why things ought to be settled in a court of law rather than the court of public opinion although the age-old attitude of "where there's smoke, there's fire" often plagues people exonerated by court cases. Even if the cops dropped their case, I know I sure as fuck wouldn't want an accused CP-user teaching kids.

I mean... I think if you weren't guilty, you wouldn't commit suicide so soon after an investigation starts. Sounds like he probably had an "if I get caught, I suicide mindset from the beginning."

Also, the cops don't just take your computer from a accusation. They had to have his IP directly associated with a direct download of cp.

Not really. This kind of attention basically makes you guilty by society even if nothing was found. Could have thought his life was over just from the fact he was being investigated.

The Subway guy's shit was seized off just an accusation, iirc.
