It's basically a lot like the other original Sonics, but of course, because it came out on the Mega-CD, hardly anyone played it.

I admit, though, I think it's probably the weakest of the original 5. The level design isn't really quite as good, plus it's too derivative of Sonic 1 (TBQH, most of the levels from the 2 games can be paired up). The time travel aspect was fun, but the level layouts didn't change nearly enough. The music was really good, though, in both soundtracks, and the special stages made proper use of the Mega-CD hardware, even though most of the rest of the game didn't seem to.

Thoughts on Sonic CD? Have you played it? How do you think it compares to 1, 2, 3, and &K?

The bosses were strange. By that point, Sonic bosses usually took 8 hits to beat, but in this, it was quite different, maybe 3 hits a boss. They were quite creative, though. I expect a lot of people find the Collision Chaos boss annoying. I found it really irritating as a child, although when I was older, doing some time attack, I could beat it in (maybe) less than 30 seconds.

Yup, even though I was a fan of Sonic from the start, I still to this day have never played Sonic CD.
And I actually have it on Steam. Guess that now that I have it, I am just keeping it out here for when I want to check it out. And as for derivative Mania certainly was as well. Not knocking it, just sayin...

The level design is pretty bad, imho. Everything else about the game feels in line with classic Sonic and it hits all the right nostalgia buttons for me, but... it ranks solidly below Sonic 1 - 3+K, for me.

Sega Channel? That was another Sega idea that flopped, Sega had alot of futuristic ideas but in such short time alot of shit didn't work out.

Other lost Sonic games are Sonic The Fighters the arcade fighting game with Sonic and gang even includes Fang The Sniper and Bark the Polarbear.

TJ Davis, who sang on most of the Sonic R tracks, also appears on the MSR soundtrack. Just about every track is amazing. Some of the parodies (like the Will Smith one, Oasis one, etc.) are still kinda funny, but didn't age as well as the others. My fave:

Virtua Fighter 1 and Kolibri were the other two worthy games on that attachment otherwise yeah the 32X was one of the stupidest things ever created. Sega CD had a decent library once you pick out the good games like Snatcher, Sonic CD, Night Trap, Vay, Lunar, Rise of the Dragon, etc

It didn't really flop. It just wasn't as successful as they had hoped. 250K subscribers on a dying system and it lasted until 1998.

It was amazing except you could only store one game save at a time. I lost my Phantasy Star IV save so many times I went ahead and bought the damn game.
