Have you ever tried or thought about learning stuff like how to do websites and basic business stuff and then starting a business and selling stuff from home? Seems like an ideal situation for someone in your position. I don't really know anything about how to do any of that, but that's essentially how my boss started off, though he isn't a shut in and does have a degree. He just decided to do it a while back since he's passionate about the community of the niche market we cater to, as well as the product itself.

Ah. Yeah that makes sense. It's the kind of endeavor that needs start up money. Maybe try some crowd funding site possibly. People do that a lot these days.

Is your situation purely the result of underlying conditions? Or have past experiences caused and kept you in this point? Or a combination of the two? Feel free to explain as much or as little as you are comfortable with.

I often find that when I play into my anxieties, they often compound and I find things seeming to be worse and more anxiety reducing as a result. Fighting them is like crawling out of an antlion trap yeah, so in most cases, the ideal response is "well, do I have enough to get by down here in this trap" and if so, well that's the better option it seems. At the same time, that trap gets deeper gradually and time more often than not makes it harder to climb out.

I know that when you're relying on others and you know there may come a time when you can no longer do so, that pressure makes it all worse. I was worried about my brother for that very reason (he was a shut in until recently and a neet until a year or so ago I think. He got assistance and it led to work at first and an apartment as of a few months ago. He's about to be 28). Our mother and stepfather are in their 60s. Had anything happened to them, I don't know what would have happened to my brother. Our father is out of state and there was a falling out a few years ago. Neither of us have spoken to him lately, but that's another story lol. I wouldn't have been able to take the kid in. I've got my own issues and I live in an effciency/studio apt so I wouldn't have the space even if I trusted someone else in it, which is unlikely because I have major trust and privacy issues and my brother is one of the main causes from when we were younger, but again, that's another story >_<.

Sorry, wall of text again. I just want to be able to offer insight in any case, if anything I say can be helpful. I know what it's like to be stuck in a rut and stay in one's comfort zone as a result, and I could make a monumental effort to try and help 100 people break that rut and even if I had success in 95 cases and all of them told me to follow my own advice, I don't know if I'd be able to find a way to do so -_-

I was bullied through school, was raised in a toxic atmosphere in my own home, and never had any friends. I spent pretty much all of my time in high school by myself... The loneliness and depression was (and still is) crushing, and it felt like I never had a reprieve.

My home environment is a lot better than it used to be, but because of my experiences growing up I don't have much confidence in myself, have no confidence in the future, am severely stunted in the social skills territory, and am unable to trust people.

Thanks for sharing your story - I mean it, it's awesome to hear of people who struggle.. overcome.. even when they know they will have to keep struggling/ swimming against the current.

TC, you said your home life has improved a bit.. have you thought about going out w/ your parents for a few minutes each day? Like if they go for walks... or work in the garden.. or do anything just around the outside of the house.

Maybe they'd help you out? Ask if they would go with you for a five minute walk before dinner tomorrow.. just up the street and back or something.
