Nobody is happy on the Rays. I will always be a fan of Tommy but I'm pretty ambivalent on the trade overall. The Cards are not good so they might as well sell and I can't pretend to know how good the players they got back are.

I'm sorry, have you seen Mallex's Florida chain?

Tommy wore that ninja hood when it was cold in St. Louis. What if I posted a pic and said "that is not the hood of an unhappy person." Seems like you're making a lot of assumptions re: interesting attire and its suggestions towards a person's self-actualization

Why would he be happy in Tampa?

Also, I love how the random edgelord who finished our topic basically had the sig that Squall was making fun of earlier in the topic:

I am not afraid to express my opinions, no matter how unconventional they may be.
I don't apologise for doing so. If you don't like what I say, tough.

This year seemed like a really active trade season. There wasn't really one huge name (what, like Archer and Machado maybe?) but it feels like there was just more activity overall.

The Rockies' lone move was trading for a 36-year-old reliever with less than 200 ML innings

Archer to the Pirates perplexed me at first, but then I thought about it and decided they'll probably hold on to him until next season and hope he has better numbers where they can flip him to a desperate team for better value.

I think they're planning to use Archer as a piece of their next contending team. He's under team control through 2021 and they're pretty good this year. I just don't know if the move is them going all in for a 2018 wild card slot or them retooling in advance of the offseason for when they upgrade to try and beat the Cubs.

Another example of how position players are pitching too often. Jose Reyes gave up 6 runs in the 8th and the Nats scored a whopping 25 in total.

Conspiracy theory: MLB told teams to use their hitters to pitch more often going forward to soften the blow of introducing the DH to the NL this off-season. They think the opposite of pitchers hitting for themselves is good

They were down by like 17 runs in the 8th so they did this to preserve their bullpen in a game they couldn't win anyway. It happens basically every night now where it used to be a cherished oddity

I'm still Octopath Traveling as you know. I'm like 27 hours in and haven't played in a couple of days because the repetitiveness is getting to me, just like with Bravely Default as anticipated. Overall I still like it but it's a bit of a shame because they were super close to making an amazing game

Regarding the idea that there were more trades than usual at the deadline, I just heard on Effectively Wild (fangraphs podcast) that the Giants are the only team who didn't make a deadline adjacent move and they still did add Austin Jackson on the 8th

I don't really like RPGs much either but I figure the SNES Classic gives me a reason to try some out anyway. SMRPG is a pretty good one for somebody who doesn't really like the genre cause it's easy and it's got timed action bonuses like Paper Mario (if you've ever played those) that make the turn-based combat a little less boring

That's interesting. You mean because they have to select plays simultaneously? The issue with that analogy is that in RPS both sides are working to attain the same goal whereas in football one is on the attack and one is on defense each turn. Did you ever play odds and evens instead of RPS? That's a little closer maybe

Yeah, odds and evens works too. I just compared it because you're trying to read/ predict, your opponent, disguise your move, and call plays simultaneously

CaptainHammer posted...

It's way overly simple, but in football the goal in this analogy is to beat your opponent. Say you're playing best out of 5 RPS. A first down is winning one bout, and winning 3/5 is a touchdown. On defense, it could be breaking up a pass or allowing no gain, and then forcing a punt
