They had to suspend the ability for their paying subscription customers to use the service and take out a loan to continue services and they have higher surge pricing for any movie after 11am.

Now they aren't allowing people to use the app to see an opening for a new blockbuster movie. I'm sure they're going to do that for a lot of new movies.

Sucks for people who paid for the subscription.

It's a perfect example of the fake economy we've created, where things are inexplicably popular and yet never actually make money

Ive used it to see so many movies so far, figured they would go belly up eventually though

AMC has a subscription thing now though where you pay like $20 a month and can see 3 movies per week, I doubt they would have implemented something like that if not for moviepass

Edit: Just opened the app and there is a message saying the service is working again for subscribers

Yeah, once moviepass dies, hopefully the theater-specific services will stick around. I want to get what the Alamo has whenever they come out with their thing.

Lol. Movies are bad. $10 for snacks and $15 a ticket is obscene.

They're a garbage company tbh. Took them four months just to cancel my account last year and they kept charging me/refunding it back every time I had to go back and tell them it didn't go through. The idea was great, but their customer service is non-existent.

There's a few theatres around here that are also home video rental places.

In all likelihood, it was designed to be a failed business so some rich asshole can get a tax write-off to avoid paying taxes.

The whole concept was just dumb from the start. Didn't even know what they were about until the financial issues caught up w/ them. I assumed it was some service at the theater or even move-producer level where they have you pay a subscription to view however many movies you want.

But it's not. It's some yahoos paying the same full price we all do and just acting as a middle man to give the tickets to people paying them a subscription! They only make money if the subscribers barely see any movies, but then said people wouldn't be a subscriber. Movie tickets are ridiculously expensive. Such an idea was doomed to fail from the start, and anyone w/ half a brain could have noticed that.

I guess it was nice for frequent movie-goers (I am not such a person) to milk the idiots at movie pass for a while until reality caught up. Good for them, I guess.

I'm sure they were under the impression that once they were up and running with a wide subscriber base they could get major discounts from theater chains with the idea that it would bring more viewers in spending money at their concession stands.

I love The Alamo, but I easily spend $30 there each trip, so I try and save going there for those one night only screenings.
