Board 8 > Just finished Stein's Gate last night. That was fucking amazing. *spoilers*

It took everything I love about Time Travel and everything I love about Anime and combined them almost perfectly.

The false ending had me damn near in tears. It was beautiful. The false ending didn't bother me as much because god damnit Okabe deserved a happy ending after everything he went through.

There were a couple things that bothered me though.

One, when Moeka sent her D-mail about the IBN 5100 and the changes happened and it wasn't at the lab anymore, they all still clearly remembered what they had hacked into and saw in the SERN database with the Jellyman files. If they never had the IBN 5100, they shouldn't have been able to remember that. I know this can sort of be explained with the memories from different world lines slipping in, but they all just clearly remembered it right away, it was different.

Two, Mr. Braun being FB was so weird. Like it just didn't make sense with the way he was written up to that point and it seemed like a twist thrown in just for the sake of having a twist.

I really liked the touches early on where they would repeat a scene like 5 seconds after it happened, making the viewer feel like a glitch had happened in their own memory. I feel like they stopped doing it after a certain point though and I wish they hadn't. Those subtle little touches were amazing.

But yeah, overall one of my favorite animes of all time, bar none. I'll get around to watching 0 here soon probably.

Aw yeah Steins;Gate. Okabe, Kurisu, Suzuha, and Mayuri all so good.

0 has been surprisingly (to me at least) great so far, though the anime is not finished showering yet.

Oh yeah this. It's good and actually does meaningfully contribute to the series imo.

I also rather liked the movie, though I'm pretty sure it's non-canon? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Still my favorite anime. Still the only anime series I've gone out of my way to actually buy. I get some people's complaints about the beginning being too slice of life-ish for their tastes but I think it really helps build Okabe's relationships with the rest of the lab members and makes the second half all the more powerful.

The visual novel is pretty great too. The True Ending follows the anime pretty much exactly but there's a few extras in there too. There's also various endings that give Okabe the choice to not send the D-Mails to reverse the Future Gadget lab members actions, some of which are actually pretty great.

It's not my favorite, but it is still in my top 5.

Also I love the beginning of the series even on its own merits without the second half, but yeah I can see how it's not for everyone.

Can anyone clarify this? I still haven't watched the movie because the series ending was perfect and I don't want anything to have a chance to ruin it, haha. The fact that it's potentially not even canon has further warded me but nobody I've asked has given a definitive answer.

I really need to make time to watch the Chaos;Child anime. The VN is excellent and I'd even rate it above Steins;Gate, but I've always been wary of the 12 episode length trying to compress all of that.

I watched 5 episodes and it was....really fuckin' lame.

The only one that had potential was Occultic;Nine, which you need to watch dubbed or know Japanese, because it straight up moves too fast to read subs.

Except, again, Robotics;Notes, which got a pretty great show even though it apparently has the weakest source material.

I think it's arguable. I always saw it as not.

Someone in the anime topic claimed there was a line in S;G0 that canonizes it, but I don't recall that anywhere and was never given an answer when I asked what it was.

Doesn't the movie end with young Okabe kissing Kurisu. And in 0, there's the episode where the same thing happens except it's the new redhead instead. Forgetting her name.

The extra final episode is mandatory. Chris is the best. Mayuri sucks though and I am annoyed she was such a big part of the story. But fortunately she was great after she died.

I got really annoyed at Mayuri when she like actively impeded Okabe when he was trying to save her post TIme Leap Machine but otherwise she didn't bother me so much.

So no one else though the part with Mr. Braun being FB was weird and out of place?

Chaos child is the best science adventure thingie, but it isn't necessarily very appealing with some things probably being more offputting to most people. and I can definitely see the ending infuriating a lot of people too. and of course the animu is probably a terrible adaptation.

steins gate 0 ends pretty abruptly and is structured kinda badly, but the stuff not involving kagari is decent. kagari is pretty bad though. I can't imagine the animu is going to turn out well either.

If I remember correctly, they don't need the IBN5100 to view the SERN databse and Jellyman files. It is used to access the even more secret Echelon stuff that is stored as a unique programming language.

Steins gate 0 very minor spoilers has some great moments but yeah I agree there are problems. A lot of events never get explained properly and the ending just raises even more questions. I think the anime does a better job telling a coherent story though and maybe it will have a better conclusion.

I was gonna read Chaos;head but kind of stalled out between it being a non-great fan translation, tons of branches, and not the most likable main character. There are a bunch of strange and mysterious elements of the plot that made me want to see how they all turn out, though.
