Yeah I get its a movie but this makes it seem like all regular NYC commuters know each other like regulars in a bar

That cant possibly be true

Also on another note are there other US cities with the same underground train system NYC uses? Ive heard of Bart but thats not underground afaik

I've never seen that show, but in the town that I live in, I sometimes see the same cars on the road at the same time on weekdays

It depends. If you are always going to the same job at the same time every day and coming from the same place, you can easily start to notice people on the train with you who are also coming and going at the same times so you wind up seeing them every day.

That being said, most people on the subway or PATH trains in NYC never really talk to one another, so even if you recognize someone else you probably know absolutely nothing about them, because you may have been traveling on the same train for years and never exchanged a single word.
