I understand why, but given that it was so long ago you'd think an alternative would be possible. Have him completely condemn his past statements and apologize for them and stress that he's changed or whatever.

However given the frequency and nature of the comments I guess for some it might be a bit hard to accept that.

The negative response people have toward his firing really says something about our current political climate.

Guy makes racist joke tweet five years ago. Gets fired. The public's response: "Good. Guy's a piece of shit."

Guy makes multiple weird jokes about having sex with children and babies. The public's response: "They were funny! This guy made GotG! Who cares?! They're just jokes!"

Especially with what's going on now with multiple Hollywood stars being outed for sexual harassment and rape, this firing is really not surprising

The only ones where I agree with it is when it's police, politicians, teachers... or someone else in a position of power or authority over those they're hateful towards and based on the social media messages, it becomes questionable if they can treat the people they have authority over fairly.

These movie directors, fast food workers, and so on getting fired for dumb shit they said on twitter in some cases many years ago is just disturbing and not a good trend.

But when the jerks leading these charges, like Mike Cernovich, have it turned on them, that's delicious karma

I've only actually read 2 of his jokes. one was stupid. one was also stupid I guess but i admit I laughed. it was funny in a really fucked up dark way.

his jokes were dumb and funny or not he should not have said them. but I don't think he deserved to be fired since he said them a decade ago before he ever even was working for Marvel. and he has since stopped and even said he felt bad about it (and this was before yesterday. he didn't say it cause of the firing)

Dozens of posters on this board have made hundreds of similar jokes over the last 15 years, and no one ever openly reacted negatively to any of them. I have a hard time thinking of any of them even being modded. And this is honestly one of the tamer corners of the Internet. You'd probably hear worse than anything he said if you spent more than 15 minutes on 4chan.

If anything, I'd argue the problem is more that Twitter has become a repugnant cesspool with multiple lynch mobs constantly looking for a victim to crucify. Outrage culture reaching its inevitable conclusion, where the threshold for witch hunts is going to keep getting lower and lower, and it's not going to matter whether you said something yesterday or 20 years ago, because the Internet never forgets. And thoughtcrime is doubleplusungood.

They already knew about these tweets. The guy used to work for Troma and was all about comedy that was meant to offend.

He didnt get fired because of the tweets, he got fired because a conservative group drummed up enough outrage to force Disney to do something. He has been very outspoken against Trump.

So basically he got fired when people found out about the tweets... yeah that's kind of the way it goes. This happens all the time. Years later tweets can come back to haunt you. And like he said... they market to kids so having a guy making multiple pedo jokes is something that isnt a good look for them. Also, liberals get conservatives fired all the time so dont pretend this only happens to anti trump guys

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that people here are more outraged about the firing of a guy making a bunch of pedo jokes just because he was anti trump than a guy who said the n word once in a non hostile way. And for the record, I side with papa John's firing him. That's what companies do when their image is effected. Their pizza sucks anyway though
