What's weird is that whenever I hear the phrase Authentic "insert country" Food i don't think of stuff served in local restaurants... I think of the homemade bistro/bed'n'breakfast crap

I admit, it was a bit of a culture shock when I first had street tacos on a corn tortilla. Up until that point, I had never seen a soft corn tortilla.

And it grossed me out to know that a lot of authentic Mexican restaurants serve beef tongue.

All of that was a while ago though, and I'm no longer an uncultured swine

Yeah I've been to a bunch of very authentic Mexican places... one's that are almost all only hispanic customers. And they all have burritos

But seriously taco bell is a scam at this point. I can get a torta and a sope for the same price as a crunchwrap and quesadilla at taco bell. And they put next to nothing in their quesadillas

I like Taco Bell, but I wouldn't consider it Mexican food by any means, and that's not supposed to be a cheap dig at it. It's just a weird style of food that's all its own thing, I feel. Mexican inspired of course, but to me, that'd be like calling Pizza Hut "Italian food".

Taco Bell is Tex-Mex with some differences. Your other example isn't good since any pizza by definition would be Italian food.

That's a good label for it, gonna have to use that from now on for the ole' TB. I still can't see how Pizza Hut deep dish is anything like an authentic Italian pizza though. One is super doughy with lots of sauce and cheese, typically greasy. The other is thin, with minimal sauce, sometimes removing it altogether for oil instead.

other way around. I had had actual mexican long before I ever went to a taco bell. I never visited a taco bell until I was like at least a teenager I think. I used to not live near them. I always knew it wasn't real mexican. just like I know there is difference between a big mac and a burger at a place like Red Robin

I have a steak burrito from a Mexican restaurant and found it to be very enjoyable. I've never eaten at Taco Bell but I can't imagine fast food being better than freshly made stuff.

Idk. When I went to this one restaurant that served authentic Mexican food, it was about the same price as Taco Bell, but you got a lot more. And this was suppose to be a sort of fancier restaurant that was suppose to cost more. Also, I don't really see Taco Bell as cheap, either. Last time I went there, it seemed like it was kind of expensive. At least, for what I got...

It depends on the person. And how they make the food. Sometimes, if the cheese isn't good, I won't really like the taco and would probably prefer Taco Bell, for example. So, it could just be things like the ingredients of how they're made. It could also be maybe they grew up eating Taco Bell a lot. Like after school or on weekends often. So, it's easy to understand why some people would like Taco Bell. Or like it more than other places...

As for me, I don't know which I would prefer. I like Taco Bell when hanging out with friends. But authentic is good, as well. More of a eating out type of thing. Or take home to watch a movie with. Where Taco Bell is for watching videos on youtube or gaming...
