I see a bunch of topics, so let's consolidate them.

How's everyone liking the game? I'm slightly regretting starting with Therion as I'd like to swap him out, but he's a damn good single target damage dealer with incredible hp and sp sustain. His lack of aoe is a bit annoying. I've been using him as a mana battery for H'aanit and Cyrus

There are really only 4 path options. They are split between ones that always work, but restricted by level, or ones that have a chance to fail, but no restrictions.

I must have been in a funky mood or something when I played the demo... I wasn't into it at all. Bought the full version a few days ago and started on the opposite end of the map, with Therion. I love this game so much. I just picked up my 4th party member which means I've now replayed a good chunk of the demo sections, and I dunno wtf my problem was when I tried it out a few months ago.

I've been dying to play more but it's a busy month for me at work. Highly recommend.

I really like it, it's refreshing to play a jrpg that isn't a bunch of highschool students, or (more importantly) another save the world story.

I sorta wish I started with Cyrus instead of Therion a little though.

I started with Therion and he's become quite useful. I also like that it shows percentage on the ease of stealing from enemies. I feel like the hunter is the most useless outside of battle but her bow and ax make her decent when it comes to weaknesses and capturing enemies had its use as well since I used one of the beasts to kinda bust a lot of damage on the boss in the cave during Opheilia's story. Frost damage from the beast alone came out to 1200 while Alf's frost damage with max BP only came out to 400.

A lot of times demos simply just aren't as satisfying because of psychology. You're not as invested in it so you're just not as into it. But when you own it and are in it for a long haul it becomes more engrossing.

I went Therion then collected clockwise. I'm on Olberic right now. I like his story, a lot actually, but his class is super boring imo.

I don't know what to sub everyone. My main party so far consists of Therion, H'aanit, Cyrus, and Tressa cuz fuck Ophelia. I'm thinking H'aanit warrior, Cyrus Merchant, Therion Apothecary, and Tressa dancer?

Started with Therion and I'm really happy with him. Main team is:
Therion - Thief/Merchant
Ophilia - Cleric/Dancer
H'aanit - Hunter/Warrior
Cyrus - Scholar/Cleric (Sorcerer later 100%)

Doing chapter 2 main chapters right now for non-mains first, then mains, then I'll do chapter 2's round of optional dungeons and clear up any sidequests. This game is really, really fun.

The demo was fun but I was still pretty on the fence about the game. I basically ended up picking it up because Mario Tennis was a disappoint in the end, in terms of its longevity factor. ^_^;

I just picked this game up without even playing the demo. All I did was watch some video reviews. But if it's a good JRPG, I'll probably like it. Kinda confused on how story progression works, though, if anyone wants to clear that up for me. I'm told you can do every character's story in one playthrough if you want. Does that mean that parts of the story are missable?

You can do everything in one playthrough. You can switch between any of the characters except for the one you pick as your main. All of the characters have their individual storylines, 4 chapters per character, but I heard there's something that ties them all together after you do them all. Haven't gotten to that point, myself.

Therion is stupid good at keeping your big guns (Cyrus, basically) full on SP

Though his final skill sounds like it should be incredibly good AoE damage too

Cyrus isn't doing too shabby right now thanks to that Dragon Scarf, which regens +6 SP every turn. At some point I'll sub him to Merchant long enough to get the half SP passive skill. So by the time he'll be a Sorcerer...woo, watch out.

I think Therion gets too much hate, tbh, Conflict. >_> Only he can open purple chests, yes, and his steal is much better than Tressa's good girl merchant crap. He has good attack and defense debuffs, can steal and share SP like no one's business, my Therion's damage is decent and his evasion is stupid high so a lot of attacks don't even land on him. My Merchant Therion also steals money now, as well, and can buff the party with BP.

I still dont have a switch, but I want to get one with this game. I just sold some stuff on craigslist, but I dont want to get the system and not have anything to play. I guess I could just download the game from the eshop.

Each action is shared with 2 characters.

There's a "good" and a "bad" version. The good version always works and doesn't risk reputation loss but it's level gated and you can't always use it. The bad version is always useable but has a risk of failing and causing reputation loss.

Another little interesting tidbit:

The 8 characters names spell out "Octopath" when starting with Ophilia and going clockwise

It's funny how the boss of an optional dungeon near Flamesgrace was much easier than one of the common monsters in the dungeon itself.

I thought so!!! She was in my main party for a while, and suddenly my SP just filled up at random. Now I kinda want her back...lol.

But man...Cyrus has quickly become my favorite character.

Don't need Primrose for it, just Dancer. I have the SP regen skill on my Ophilia and the girl never runs out lol.
