Athena seems headed for #6 for sure. I guess the only question left regarding the top ten's order is where Ema lands. I remember thinking she was pretty damn minor for a detective but she only needs a bit over 400 lines to hit #9.

Well, she's gonna need more than that to pass Trucy because she has a substantial role in 6-2.

Ema testifies a good deal in SoJ though, and she's in every case with an investigation. She got 550 lines in AJ, and SoJ's a bigger game and her role is bigger. I think she'll end up at #9 and Trucy will be 10th.

I'm curious to see where Blackquill and Larry end up because they're the only characters in that group in the 1000 line range with lines left. I don't think either one will pass Pearl, but I wonder if they'll both be able to pass Lang or Klavier.

And a substantial role in 6-5. I think Trucy's linecount in 6-5 could be a mild spit-take.

Yeah, that's true. She's there quite a bit in the beginning of 6-5. I was surprised at her line count in 5-2, and her role in 6-5 is similar.

Trucy is essentially investigation assistant for almost the entire first day (and then basically disappears)

but I think that's still good for 100 lines or so

Trucy's only around until shortly after you arrive in Kurain Village. Dhurke shows up almost immediately and takes the assistant role. Still, she and Dhurke talk quite a bit in that short amount of time because Apollo still doesn't have much to say to him yet.

"This must be a new experience for you, Mr. Wright, being loathed by a client."

nope it's not the first time

Also, the Khura'in judge is so good in 6-1. He's the one who really sells you on how different and ultimately unjust the court system is. Ahlbl is also good across all his appearances as he reflects the changing mentality of the average citizen toward lawyers over the course of the game.

I don't really like the Khura'in Judge; way too similar to the previous judge. I guess that's the joke (and it worked well enough with the Judge's Brother, since they are brothers) but at this point every damn judge being a slight modification of the same character feels incredibly lazy.

The Incredible Payne is great though. I felt he fell flat in DD but his SoJ appearance/role is the high point of 6-1 to me.

but when they try to make the judge too different he just ends up being boring (see: English Judge in Layton/AA and the judges in DGS)

I think the Khura'in Judge is pretty different at first because he literally doesn't care about doing things the right way. He'd rather just be done with it and go home. His utter confusion on how to run a proper trial (since it's been decades since the last time he had to) is part of what makes 6-1 good, as well as the fact that he's openly antagonistic against Phoenix and delights in anything going wrong for him.

He becomes more like the regular judge in 6-3 and 6-5, but he's at his best in 6-1.

Well, this does remind me that Jake The Snake Roberts got his neck fucked up really badly with a non-gimmicked guitar shot from the Honky Tonk Man back in the day. Peeslub seems in good enough shape that he could pull that off.

People in Ace Attorney die really easily compared to real life in general, particularly from blunt trauma.

I wish the series weren't so madly in love with murder. You could do a lot with intended murder where the victim comes to but has only very limited memories.

Inga showing up at the end of 6-1 was when I knew SoJ was going places. Also, it's kind of interesting that you can glean from meeting him for the first time that he has prosopagnosia if you already know because Phoenix comments in his inner monologue about how Inga keeps looking him up and down like he's some exotic animal on display.

Also, the cutscene at the end between Dhurke and Datz doesn't feel like it belongs because shouldn't Datz still be in jail at this point? I guess I'm not perfectly clear on the SoJ timeline yet.

Anyway, 6-1 complete. That was more fun than I remembered. Numbers soonish.

I think 6-1's alright in its best parts but for me it really drags in some places. It's a surprisingly long tutorial case and a lot of it is either going on about how corrupt the legal system is and how they want to kill Phoenix, or it's Peeslubn's music gimmick slowing things to a crawl. Was never a big fan of him personally.

I mean I sorta get why they did it the way they did because if you're going to have Trucy as a client, she's got a stronger connection to Apollo than Phoenix despite their father/daughter relationship, and it'd be even weirder if Phoenix were around and wasn't the one defending his daughter.

I guess it'd be better if they just changed the circumstances around her arrest a bit, like have her TV show not be set to air until after Phoenix is supposed to come back.

Phoenix left for Khura'in during the weekend of April 22-23. Mistree died the following Thursday, April 27.

If Retinz was planning to do it while Phoenix was away, he'd only have four days of prep time for the plan... yet Bonny and Betty could conceivably have been brought in as late as Wednesday.

(In true Ace Attorney fashion, I left a deliberate contradiction here. Let's see if you can figure it out.)
