Started on Chapter 2 stuff finally... and actually lost to Tressa's boss! Game felt a far too easy up to this point but that felt like a really huge spike... guess I shouldn't complain! Though it might matter that even after clearing all of the Chapter 1s I'm still pretty underleveled for this guy going by the recommendation. (Average party level is like 7 below recommended)

Maybe I should turn off Evasive Maneuvers?

I also killed a "Metal Slime" cat. Holy shit they give a lot of experience.

I've run into two of those messing around exploring before doing the second chapters. On the second one I tried out the dance trick Shine posted and it boosted my party somewhere around 5-8 levels each. I'm gonna demolish these Chapter 2s now lol.

I use Evasive Maneuvers about half the time. Usually I use it when I'm going through lower level areas so I'm not stuck killing enemies for basically no reward.

In my case, the Metal Slime cat was killed by the greatest hero of all time, my main man BRYAN. Thank you Bryan for being the most valuable member of the team (he was some dude Ophilia picked up in the dancer's hall. Smacked the cat with an axe.)

Level doesn't necessarily matter so much compared to good equipment. Steal/buy/find some strong stuff and you can easily take on stuff over your level.

yea with Alfyn's golden axe I absolutely destroyed Primrose's Chapter 1 boss. That thing's gonna set me for a decent while.

Yeah I just finished doing a loop of the chapter 2 cities just for stealing and shopping and uh, holy mother of god that's a massive power jump. Cyrus in particular feels like he's flat out breaking the game at this point lol

I do wonder if steal-scumming is a little bit too good in this game. Like, obviously you don't have to do it but the insane power gain you get from doing so will naturally make most people want to do it. And that can be a lot of time spent just cheating the game rather than actually playing it. >_>

I should try putting that Warrior passive on Therion for the next boss to see how high his Thief divine skill damage goes. I just don't know what passive I'd remove for it. 4 spaces is not enough dammit!

Grandport is supposed to be amazing for stealing equipment, but I made it there so late in my run that all it had of interest for me was two spears and a piece of evasion armor. Oops.

Goddamn, the boss in Forest of No Return is no joke. Probably the toughest fight I've faced, but I also had no efficient way of breaking it when it got to its final shield phase. In hindsight I could've used those BP items to make breaking go faster.

Finished Tressa's story yesterday. I didn't really like how her final boss was just some random woman, but maybe at least she and the journal's author will somehow tie into the endgame or something. Would be even weirder and more disappointing if it doesn't, because then there'd be absolutely no context to Esmeralda's actions.. Aside from that, though, it was cute and charming like the rest of her stuff.

Are there any recommended subclasses for each character? Kinda curious about what's considered to be optimal. Not including the special ones.

Also, what's Olberic's special ability? Everyone seems to have one other than him. Maybe I'm just missing something obvious.

Olberic is the only one who can boost the Defend command, but I don't remember what that accomplishes.

It makes him a damage sponge essentially. Combined with cover it can be kind of helpful I guess

If only there were fewer AoE attacks from bosses tanking might actually be useful.

Man I found an expensive bow to buy (can't steal I guess) that seems insanely good (+280 attack, +100 crit), but has the added effect of raising the encounter rate. Gross!

So I started unlocking subjobs only to find out its the worst of both worlds.

It only changes your in-battle sprite, not the overworld one.

You can't pick to look like your standard sprite in battle.

So now I'm trying to figure out how to give useful subjobs to my main roster that also doesn't look completely stupid.

It looks like the post story sidequests are intermingling the different characters' NPCs, so that's neat. Like Cordelia from Therion's story is now in Grandport, worrying about Noa from Tressa's story since apparently they're friends.

I wish the map would give some indicator of whether you've fully explored a dungeon or something. With so many optional dungeons sprinkled throughout, it's hard to remember sometimes which ones I've investigated and which ones I just took a peak in.

Also I just fought a boss in a level 50 dungeon that was a total joke. I was preparing for war and before I knew it I saw the boss' name in yellow and couldn't believe it. Like I killed it before I even had the chance to break it once.

So I'm using Ophelia with Warrior, Cyrus with Apothecary, H'annit with Thief, and Primrose with Scholar. Therion comes off the bench to replace H'annit so his sub-class is Hunter. I'll probably finish these five characters then come back to Olberic, Tressa, and Alfyn.

Apothecary seems useless to me? Alfyn is mainly good for Concoct.

I like it for the status removal and having a second axe user to break enemies with.

I make H'annit a thief so she has access to as many weapons as possible, and I make Ophelia a warrior so she can have that paladin thing going. I suppose when I finish her storyline (since she's my protag) that I'll make Olberic a cleric and do the same thing.

I put Apothecary on H'annit. She doesn't really need weapon variety because of Capture, and even then the rest of my main setup has the bases covered (Therion - Merchant, Alfyn - Warrior, Primrose - Scholar). Her bow skills are slightly unreliable, so the axe ones are nice to have. Thief might also be useful for SP recovery but I like vomiting damage more.

Finished my first four characters and got all four bonus jobs. Warbringer is a fucking bitch that can go lick all the dirty buttholes. My first attempt was going just fine, until I was dead in one move when I couldn't break it in time to stop the super attack (well in hindsight I could've, but 20/20 and all that), but the second time went waaay rougher and it dragged out for so long but eventually I prevailed.

As far as difficult fights go, I'd say... Warbringer > Devourer of Man > Rune Blade > the giant python fight from Shadow Over the Sands > Archmagus > Starseer No story bosses so far have been worthy of this list imo. Honestly I wouldn't even include Starseer either but it's part of the set so eh. Maybe Ophilia Chapter 3 was the hardest story boss for me so far? There's still at least one more high level sidequest boss I haven't fought yet, too.

Well I've done what I can do with these four, so time to start on the second batch! My primary party is all level 59. Will be interesting to see how low level I can progress through their chapters with the super equipment.

Also if you just want axes for breaking, might as well go with Merchant. The axe mercenary only costs 800 and hits all enemies. It's also really weak, but it's for utility.

And I wouldn't call the bow skills unreliable. They may look like they are, but they're always guaranteed at least three hits (three hits per enemy in Arrowstorm's case), which is still really nice for shield breaking. I think Warrior's spear skill is the same.

I've been trying to force myself to use it since I never use the more offbeat mechanics in RPGs. It's actually really easy to scout strong enemies and capture them by boosting. Some are really good, and they're nice to have, but I still don't use them that often since my party is pretty strong for where I currently am in the game.

I do think that being forced into using captured monsters for her Provoke is really annoying.

Apothecary's helpful against the status loving bosses mostly

I went with symmetry teams
Primrose/Tressa as Dancer/Merchant supporters
Ophilia and Cyrus as Cleric/Scholar magic attackers
Olberic/Therion/Haanit/Alfyn as the physical damage dealers (they switch around their jobs)

also storybosses were doable

except Miguel was an asshole, Mattias' antimagic field was unexpected and got some characters killed a lot and Ogre Eagle made me nervous with his toxic rainbow stuff

Starting off with Haanit in the demo and having the Capture mechanic being my first battle trick for the game is what made me want to buy the game actually, it's so nice to have backup free heals and if you build up a good enough variety Haanit can have basically all weaknesses covered on her own to help whittle down shields quicker.

Also if you just don't want to deal with an annoying enemy and save yourself from taking some damage, using Capture can be super useful because it doesn't take too much to get it to a high percentage of success

Tressa's the first character in a long while that hasnt outright rejected one billion bucks when offered.

Done four characters now (H'aanit, Cyrus, Therion, Alfyn, in that order). Kinda funny how much easier they got as they went along and my characters got way more powerful. Still only have one of the superclasses, sadly. Cyrus seems like by far the best character gameplay-wise. Magic is insanely useful and does a lot of damage too if you have the right buffs in place. Still fun stuff so far.

I am glad I learned the dancerdivine + rehabilitate trick.
It came in handy loads against Primrose's final boss. The second one that is (didnt expect two bosses in a row!)
