Got the complete series on DVD recently, having always wanted to watch it (hint: I love westerns). Heard lots of good things about it.

PS: don't spoil stuff for me if I'm not up to that episode yet, dankyawww

I think i've watched it through three times. What I can say, without any spoilers, it's not necessarily slow, but if you are expecting a lot of action and gunfights, you aren't going to find it in this series. The storyline is very interesting, and I found it to be fantastic.

The last season concludes with loose ends, BUT they are making a film to conclude the series, confirmed recently. They are starting to film it in a few months.

Enjoy the ride, one of my all-time favorite series. Even if this thread doesn't grab a lot of attention, still keep updating and i'll keep an eye out for it.

I'm perfectly fine with slow-burning plots and stuff -- not everything that was cool about the Old West was gunning down dudes on main street and getting hammered at Miss Kitty's. The production values also seem decent for fourteen-ish years ago.

BTW, if you like westerns, try watching Godless on Netflix.

Debut ep was pretty good, introducing some famous figures (Wild Bill, Calamity Jane; I think I heard Pat Garrett mentioned) and a good setup for the locals. Been enjoying the old-timey dialogue, haha...you don't hear a lot of people say "contrariwise" anymore. As for casting, it's been pretty awesome, I gotta admit. Lassie (from Psych) playing the NYC city slicker is a good laugh.

Godless was excellent, I suggest anyone here who liked Deadwood to watch it, similar tone and a different look at the old west.

Yeah, it was great. It's only 7-8 episodes, IIRC, so most people can watch it in an afternoon.

Yeah Deadwood is fantastic! Just saw it a few series ago.

Bill was a tough one but removing a big presence like his gives the whole rest of the cast room for growth. I reckon you'll feel agreeable towards it by the time season two starts rolling.

Timothy Olyphant's ability to channel rage is unmatched. If you haven't seen Justified, that should be next on your list because he plays the same protagonist in that one with slightly more controlled anger.

Justified is a great follow up show because it's a modern day western with excellent, quotable dialogue, though not in the same Shakespearean way as Deadwood. Also has a ton of guest stars from Deadwood (but not Ian McShane sadly enough).

Yeah, the preacher's so kooky, it's hard not to be intrigued by whatever he's doing. When he was raving in the streets and looked up at teary-eyed Swearengen, they had a moment (almost)! The guy who plays Alma's dad has been in lots of stuff, too, but I can't place 'im. Anyway, he just got to town in the 8th-9th episode, and that's where I'm at.
