To be truthful, Toys R Us closing isnt a big deal to me.
Sure going there as a kid was exciting, as an adult there are better shopping places.

It's their fault for thinking online shopping was a fad and outsourced to Amazon years ago. They did it to themselves.

that's not what did them in

it's the fact that they had a 40% markup on their shit that other places did not for the same stuff.

a toy that cost $20 there cost like $10 at walmart.

Rather than that wouldn't the issue be Walmart selling with almost no profit margin? Toys R Us couldn't match those prices when they had more debt than the company was worth due to the leveraged buy out.

bah, good riddance

have seen that pic, doesn't do much for me. place was pretty expensive, and the final supposed discounts didn't really affect the price too much.

I do much better shopping for toys on ebay :D ... currently working on trying to collect Battle Beasts :D

idk, still bums the hell out of me. There were some store exclusives (NECA's Lightning Gremlin, Funko's Mystery Minis -- including the Disney Afternoon or whatever line, which had an adorable Shere Khan), plus it was one of the few places you could actually see certain merchandise offline.

I almost picked up the Bad Dudes micro arcade last time I was there for $15 but wasn't sure that the thing worked since the packaging was a little messed up. Still, could have saved like $15 vs buying it off Amazon which is probably the route I'll have to go at this point if I still want it.

Yeah, this was one of the bigger issues as well. Although it obviously had other issues and was less competitive thanks to the changing marketplace.

Im supposed to feel something because a company went out of business due to bad practices?

Actually, a company went out of business because a coalition of investment firms saddled them with billions of dollars of debt that they'd never be able to pay back.

They shoulda just converted em all to adult toy stores. Basically grew up with all the kids and now the stores are ready for their adult toy needs:)

Just add a few attachments to Jeoffry the Girrafe (or whatever his name is) and your good to go.

If you mean collectibles, there's not a large enough market and they already carried things clearly not meant for kids (remember those Django Unchained dolls?). If you mean sex toys, there's an even smaller market and that's mostly done online.

Totally meant sex toys, and come on...the new slogan could be "Were bringing sexy back!". They could corner the sex toy market!!

But as a kid, it was great! Most people change where they shop as they grow up.

That's because people don't want others to know what sex toys they like. Also, it may be hard to get a gift receipt... maybe...

speaking of markup, i recall the worst being the Borders media section.

I swear I'd see DVDs there for like 50 dollars when regular price anywhere else would be 20 bucks. i always wondered who was dumb enough to buy it? not even obscure dvds...new releases.

lol, Borders could be wonky with pricing at times. I think the only thing I picked up that wasn't on clearance was a copy of Ginger Snaps (which I had rented some time before and enjoyed; granted, I prefer the sequel, Ginger Snaps Unleashed)

I loved Borders. Was very upset when it closed.

Well, that and a small discount is all it takes to sell them at times. I think the ones I checked had sold out of the Switch, etc, when prices were still just 20% off.

Walmarts whole deal is setting prices at points other stores can't compete with.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if toy prices went up without toys r us around.

Yeah. And they do price matching, too. So, it's gonna be cheaper or the same price...
