The last few GDQ events have been awful.

Its becoming more a "celebrity" event than about the runners and games.

Many of the better personalities and runners stopped going because of nonsense censoring and favoring runners based on gender and orientation.

I'll probably just watch on demand after the event is over if certain interesting games.

I used to love watching it live.

There's still plenty of great runs per event. I think this January had the ALttP randomizer run which is one of my all time favorites. Mario maker randomizer is freaking lit, I'm so glad they brought that back.

It's actually interesting to see how fast the runners demolish games and show you glitches and tricks in games to gain an advantage.

In this case, it makes the most sense though. They're playing the game in a way you're not likely to ever play it. Even for non-speedruns/competitive gaming, there's a couple reasons to watch someone else play a game. Could be that it's a game you have zero interest playing yourself, but you want to see what it's all about. Could also be a game you've already completed, and you want to see how someone else plays it.

Anyway, I'll just watch a couple of the ones I find interesting when they upload them to youtube. Don't think I'll tune into the stream.

GDQ sucks now >_> There's less cringe, you can't make any jokes anymore or their corporate sponsors freak out, the game selection sucks. It's not fun to watch anymore.

Every time there's a GDQ. I ask the same question. Is there an alternative? An event all about speed runs but also donates to good causes? Because the controversies surrounding GDQ, past and present, bother me.

Something like an Extra Life speed running equivalent. With less rules and bullshit. I'd support that one in a heartbeat.

game selection doesn't seem to have gotten any worse to me. lots of the old classics are still around (super metroid even made a return here) and there's always a healthy dose of weird newer things too

I really don't see how people can say the game selection sucks. They are literally playing games for 7 days straight, even if they aren't running the one game you want there is more than enough variety for everybody.

I don't know, I'm not as up to date on MM or MM3D speedrunning as I could be, but I'm pretty keenly aware of the more well known speedrunning tricks of MM in the past. Like ISG, bombchu hovering, and some clips and stuff. But almost all the cool shit they showed in this run I'd never seen, like the goron missile and deku flower slide and many skips that come as a result of those.

Oddly enough I already knew about the gibdo mask bottle wrong warps and such.

They used a trick called "Goron missile" a lot, which apparently doesn't work on 64.

The other thing I remember specifically being pointed out is that you have to do the dungeon with light arrows differently because they added ceilings.

They were saying it's basically completely different.

Big glitch using the pictograph and swapping items, one where they can like bomb a deku flower and then move it around (used to get past guards in clock down), couple other ones I already forgot. They explain it there, it as good definitely check it out
