In 2012 I got this procedure.

No improvement in eyesight and constant discomfort.

"My brother got it and he's doing great"

That's not the experience for everyone, ok?

"You didn't take care of it"

I did drops every hour. I avoided sunlight.

Lol this would be exactly my experience

How likely is it for people to have your experience? Like what is the percentage of success rate?

I ask because I really want to get it for my girlfriend but if it's not gonna work..

My mom had it done like 15 or so years ago. Her vision was so bad that she still needs glasses, just not as strong of a prescription lol. I would like to do it but am in no rush and could honestly go rest of my life never doing it

It is cosmetic.

And the aftermath lasts 24 hours.

The hours after the surgery are admittedly rough. But the next morning your vision is 75% better.

I would love to get it as Im tired of wearing glasses or putting in contacts, but I just dont trust it.

I wish theyd just let you do one eye at a time and wait a few weeks for the next one. That way if something goes wrong youll still have one okayish eye lol.

Im scared of going blind. Can you get one eye done first? I feel like thats the only way Id go through with it. Risking my vision one eye at a time.

Id need to use a prescription monocle for the other eye in the mean time >_>

iPhone: Interesting and relevant question, most Lasik providers will NOT do one eye at a time, I can't speak for all though. This is a question I asked the Doctor and he said absolutely not it could cause issues.

(As if the surgery on both eyes didn't cause issues but anyway)

I can kinda see how it makes sense to not do an eye at a time. The body wont know wtf to do with such a glaring difference and will try to make up for it. Lets be honest though, most people are lazy and wont take the proper protocols and the end result ends up fucking ur surgery. Thats my take anyways as a webmd doctor.

Possibly PRK

That's what I got and I'm very satisfied. Longer recovery time but lesser chance of certain complications

Canada is in the process of approving it.

The US shouldn't be far behind.

I got it in may 2013. I was myope

My vision went to better than 20/20 instantly. No complaints there. However, my near vision got worse. I used to read quite a lot (I devoured one novel after the other) but I stopped reading after Lasik because reading became a strain on my eyes. It was better with reading glasses but not much.

Today it's a bit easier for me to read than immediately after the procedure, but it's still not anywhere near as comfortable as it was in the past. I use reading glasses sometimes to help, but they aren't absolutely necessary.

My vision is still 20/20 but it's not as sharp as it was because I developed some slight astigmatism that I didn't have before.

The biggest problem though is the dryness. I have to put drops many times a day, which is not that big of a problem, but it's still something that hasn't gone away after 5 years and will probably continue. Also, my eyes tend to get very dry during the night so I'm usually uncomfortable the morning when I wake up (I feel like my eyelids kind of glue to my eyes because it's so dry). So I need to put drops.

I mean, it's not hell on earth, but there are times when I wonder if it was all worth it.

It's fun to drive without glasses though.

I was busy this weekend but just saw this

the alternative is PRK

https://www.allaboutvision.com/visionsurgery/prk.htm

and FWIW my LASIK experience left me with long-term dry eye, but certainly did improve my vision to about the equivalent of 20/10. That has since faded to 20/15 but I retain exceptionally sharp eyesight relative to most people around me, so the idea of not seeing any improvement makes no sense to me.

also yeah youre shelling out a couple grand if you want corrective surgery for your vision

PRK is pretty painful but yes it has less chance of complications and the recovery instructions are not as difficult as Lasik.
