I would object saying it makes it harder because of the HP cap. It makes the super bosses much harder

The HP cap is the main difficulty spike for it yea but honestly once you know what you're doing that power boost REALLY helps. Of course it varies situation to situation, some bosses are not helped by it true.

I almost feel like i should have spent more time on the starter island trying to beat Riku.

I refuse to leave the starting island until i have more wins than Riku. Usually farm a couple levels from Wakka so i can take an extra hit from him.

Tech points count as exp. So you can just Parry him forever to grind.

I discovered in my recent 1.5 game that you get xp from the victory itself in 1.5 regardless of techs. You also get tech xp of course.

Real talk I tried to do that back in the day, got to level 23 I think it was and gave up. I love grinding in games but that one is ridiculous.

my problem is he gets to green health and I stop being able to hit him.

By the time hes finished dashing around the room by the time I target him it seems like hes doing it again.

Yeah, he gets really aggressive at the end. I just pop some ethers and spam Limits to finish him off. Strike Raid and Ars Arcanum work pretty well.

Riku 1 is barely even a fight, I'd be shocked if he had trouble with that lol

Riku 2 is the hardest non-optional fight in the game though. You have to git gud.

OK so you never updated us that you got to Hollow Bastion or fought Maleficent or anything (unless I've missed posts which is possible) so I wanted to make sure I didnt spoil that there was a second fight. I was really struggling not assuming it was Riku II just in case lol

Yea he's the real deal. Just gotta persevere (and find that little corner where his Oblivion move doesn't hit you lol)

If you have block and counter on that works wonders. Glide over the dark aura move (where he moves around fast) or Dodge roll, don't be too close when he does the finisher and make your opportunities.

Eh you can still do it without that, just pay attention to his moves and block normal, knowing which attacks are safe to respond back with an attack, how many hits are safe to swing, how much cooldown time he has, all that fun stuff

Thankfully I never had trouble with Riku's fight as a kid. I always would Guard the hits, and be disciplined enough to only attack him once or twice (he breaks out of full combos) and just try to whittle him away. The hardest fights I remember as a kid were Ceberus and the Cave of Wonders.

In my replay I wasn't sure what I was going to do about his final phase since I wouldn't be able to outlast him. I ditched the staff in this playthrough, but I didn't realize how late you learn MP Rage in the Final Mix version, which is a critically important ability. In the end I decided to just power through and attack him without concern for myself to try and take him out before he could take me out. Luckily I came out on top.

I'm honestly just not sure how to hit him between his little flying dash ability. Cant target him, he lands, he does a couple attacks and then is gone flying before I can even get to him.

It's funny because I remember thinking Riku 2 was fast as heck when I did my first Final Mix Proud Mode replay two years ago, but I played it again recently and demolished him in 1 try and was like "...Why did I have trouble with that before?? He's so slow!"

Your perspective on speed and reaction times sure changes a lot when you've fought and gotten used to the super bosses in KH2 and BBS...

So I killed him but I'm not really sure how. It looked like he still had about 20-30% of his green health left. Deflected one of his beam things and then hit him once and he died. Didn't think deflecting those at him actually did damage and I don't recall hitting that hard. So I'm not entirely sure where his health went or if he dies early or what.

At the very least, I had gotten it down to where I could dodge or parry all his attacks 95% of the time or so.

This behemoth thing(Thats what the internet says it was) may have been the easiest boss in the game so far(ok a lie, but close). He was like Cave of Wonders-lite.

I think he tried to knock me off his head and only did it twice, except once he put his weak point right in front of my face and proceeded to die even harder.

Took a detour to go beat Herc and then hunted down every single trinity(Which also finished out my dalmatians).

I feel like the difficulty should be all downhill from here. Also I picked up a decent amount of stuff, so that should help.

I kind of appreciate the scaling of the older worlds to appropriate exp/difficulty. Keeps revisits from being completely trivial.

I decided to replay the entire game to try and get the Speedster/Unchanging/Undefeated trophies.

It's super weird how when I got all the evidence in Wonderland the first time around I ended up picking the one wrong piece of evidence during the trial. But this time I just rushed through it and only grabbed one piece of evidence and I managed to select the correct one.

Took me a few sttempts to beat the Wonderland boss. Had all the evidence but was still foiled by choosing wrong a couple of times.

Beating the Hades Cup for the first time is one of my favorite gaming experiences

I played like maybe an hour of the original KH on release and I didn't like it so never bothered playing it past that. Maybe I was harsh on it as I don't remember what I didn't like, just that I didn't like the battle system for some reason

The gameplay at least has been kind of neat so far. Mainly because of how different every boss encounter has been from each other. I'd recommend a playthrough so far, anyway.

Wait til you play KH2! It's way better than 1.

Chain of Memories (which if you care about the story does need to be played before 2) however... eeeh... its hit or miss gameplay wise. Probably more miss for most people.
