you'll probably be fine, but I wouldn't make a habit of it
burgers can be cooked medium rare or even rare safely, it's just that you should ground it yourself to minimize contamination

I like my burgers medium but even this is risky if you're not doing it all yourself
for a one-off burger don't worry about it, just don't eat all your burgers that way and you'll be fine

edit: just read that you're going through chemo. in that case I wouldn't risk it at all

Pink in the middle is only correctly cooked for actual cuts of beef. all the ecoli from the cow gets ground up into that beef. but really as long as your immune system isn't bad you should be fine

Yeah, I mean, it didn't feel necessarily different or cold, but I thought it had a little bit of a weird taste to it...maybe it's because of the grill or the fuel that was used, I dunno. I normally eat burgers at home with charcoal, so I could just be attributing the taste to fear.

The beef you guys eat down there is sprayed down with shit in processing that kills most of the bacteria.

In Canada however, the Ministry of Health forbids the use of ammonia in ground beef. So hamburgers and shit like that up here are always either medium well or well done.

Yeah, I read a post earlier in the thread that said the same thing, about factories or whatever that spray shit on the meat to kill bacteria. It's fucking disgusting, but I'd rather eat ammonia than eat still living E-coli, that's for sure.

TC, glad you're feeling okay today. If you haven't noticed any ill effects yet, you're probably fine. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis; I hope your treatment goes well.

If you do start to feel ill, don't take any chances. Get to Urgent Care or an ER because you don't want to mess with E. Coli under the circumstances.

But I think the incidence of contaminated meat is actually pretty low because when it comes right down to it, most people have pretty bad food handling practices. If most meat were contaminated, we would have a lot more incidents of food poisoning than we do.
