If you ask someone for something and they don't want to do it, saying "please" won't change that and it's setting an unrealistic expectation for kids.

Just another example of how childhood lessons end up letting you down in jaded adulthood. Being an adult is just one long realization of the old excuse from childhood of why bother taking a shower, Im just going to get dirty again later?

How true it is...

Youre using the word please wrong

Its not to try and get somebody to do something, its what youre supposed to say to somebody after asking them to do something, to be polite

It's regular manners. You say please even if you know the other person will comply

Sometimes at work I get parents who tell their kids to say "please" and "thank you" to me and sometimes I wanna be like, honestly it's fine if they don't. A lot of adults don't. lol

It's not about getting something it's about being respectful and not assuming you can just say whatever you want while throwing a question mark at the end of it will get you results.

Being respectful can go a long way.

You are wrong.

If you are nice, and ask nicely, people are more likely to say yes. Not guaranteed - but definitely more likely.

That is the lesson.

There is a big difference between 'Gimmie that!' and 'May I have that, please?'

Actually I'm more inclined to do something for someone when they are polite about it. Please and thank you can go a long way.

There are a lot of rude ass people in the world. The less of them, the better. So, I support "please".

I always say please and thank you almost out of habit at this point, even when interacting with co-workers. And surprise, when review time comes around at work people always say how nice I am and how much they like interacting with me. Hence, my boss gives me more money when raises are distributed.

Therefore, saying please makes you more money.
