Mega Man 3 is nice but I don't know if I can even call it my favorite MM game on the NES. The overall gameplay design might be the best, but it's such a mess technically.

Thanks but I try to get the physical cartridges if I can. Not really into the whole digital thing especially since that one incident with my 3DS that made me lose my Club Nintendo rewards permanently. I'll only download a game if it's free, only available digitally (like Fatal Frame 5) or if the physical cart/disc is far too expensive to spend money on (like Mighty Final Fight).

A physical cartridge of Zoda's Revenge is two to three times the price of the VC version. Would you really rather pay two to three times for a game than risk a small chance something will mess up with your digital copies? Well, that really isn't much for one game, but if you make that every game you want that's available through legal digital means, and keep in mind many physical copies will be far greater than just three times the cost, it doesn't make sense to me. I used to be stubborn/purist on original cartridges too, but I don't really care anymore

Not for Zoda's Revenge. That's why I said I'll wait until I see it at a thrift store or something.

If I had heard more positive reviews for Zoda's Revenge, paying $9-$12 for the physical cart wouldn't be an issue for me because, even with my penny pinching ways, that price wouldn't be too steep for me. Paying that little bit extra to get the game the way I want it is worth it.

Do games like that even make it to thrift stores anymore? I hear that more and more, one of two things happens:

- The employees snatch it up before it hits the store shelves
- The employees look it up online before pricing it now, instead of just slapping a $4 sticker on everything even if it might be worth $30

I got Brawl for like $4 at a thrift store several years ago (long before Sm4sh was even out) but haven't seen a deal like that since, so either I just haven't lucked out, or things have changed.

Depends on the store. I've heard a lot of Goodwill stores like to take the older games and sell them online but the ones near me sell them in store. That's how I got a good chunk of my NES collection (including games like Super Mario Bros. 2 & 3, Contra and Mega Man 2 among others).

And then there are places like Value Village who don't even sell games online (to my knowledge). This year alone, I got a set of 5 complete Genesis games for $15 total and it wasn't too long ago since I found a bundle of loose SNES games (including Tetris & Dr. Mario and Super Mario Kart among others) for $7 total. Pawn shops get these kind of games in, too, but they differ from place to place. Some set all of their games at one price while others price each individual game based off of what they saw on eBay or Amazon.

I don't doubt that some employees might be taking these older games home with them but I believe that the main reason why games like these aren't found at thrift stores as often is because of retro gaming and collecting gaining more popularity as the years go on. Some people will even go to a thrift store early and stay in there for hours and hours waiting for finds like these to show up. Still, whether or not you find something depends mainly on being at the right place at the right time. Someone can stay at a Goodwill from 10 AM to 3 PM and go home only to miss a stack of NES games or a Dreamcast system that the store decided to put out at 4 PM.

Smb1,2,3 and LL
Kirby's adventure

Bubble bobble
Balloon fight
Donkey kong
Metroid
Probably a few others that I can't think of right now

Ponycanyon dumbed them down just right. Ultima 3 was a little rough, but still pretty good.
Then, something went indescribably wrong with Ultima 5 and beyond.

How they got Ultima 3's 'line of sight' mechanic to work on NES is a complete mystery.

I have had a NES since 1987. I somehow missed Pirates! on NES and still have yet to play the NES version. I first was exposed to Pirates! on the Genesis with Pirates! Gold by renting it at Blockbuster. Loved the series ever since and promptly went and bought the MS-DOS version of Pirates! Gold (as I had heard the PC version was the way to go).

The Xbox version of the Remake is good, but it lacks ground combat/search parties on land. The PC version of the Remake has that in there and, for me, it adds to the game. They actually had to take out one of the cities on the Xbox version (Vera Cruz?) because it was only accessible by land (I think it was on the Pacific-side of Central America).

One of these days, I need to find a complete copy of the NES version and give it a whirl!

The NES version didn't age well visually, but I could probably still play it today. The controls and the concept are so solid.

Dragon Warrior IV for its massive size and clever structure. On balance I might even find it better than the DS version, since the NES version is more dignified and not unnecessarily "busy" with its graphics. (But I haven't played the NES version in a long time.)
