According to statistics, electric kettles are NOT used in the United States..in fact it's VERY RARE that you see americans owning electric kettles when most other countries have at least both.

Electric Kettles are cordless or plug in kettles that heats up water without the use of a stove top..but americans don't use it because it's "too slow".

Do you use electric or stovetop? let's see what people will vote...

This is an example of an electric kettle -

Is 4 minutes really an unreasonably long time to heat up a kettle?

I think Stovetop kettles (from a cursory google search) take 8-9 minutes, which is twice as long.

The responses in this topic are kind of blowing my mind. I live in Canada, which means things are generally similar to the US, and every household I've ever lived in or visited has had an electric kettle.

I don't think I've ever actually seen a stovetop kettle.

Same. Idk why Canadian guy above is so shocked. My household never had a electric kettle. Either microwave, or use stove. And for things like cup noodles, I just microwave water, then pour it into noodles cup.

I drink green tea alot. I just microwave water in my ceramic cup, then place teabag :)

A electric kettle is just a container that heats water no? In that case just use a coffee maker without any coffee. Same result lol.

Make tea, usually. My dad makes instant coffee with it as well.

The same stuff that everyone else uses boiling water for. I just assumed a kettle of some sort was a normal kitchen appliance, like a toaster or blender.
