Board 8 > SHINE catches up on all the Y's

With the release of Yakuza 6 today I would really like to play that game in the year 2018. This is going to require me to catch up on the entire series after playing 1 and 2 on PS2 last year. After replaying Ys Seven on PC last month I can also finally play Memories of Celceta and Ys VIII (now that it has a fixed translation). With all these games starting with the letter Y I figured might as well just play all the unplayed games I own starting with the letter Y.

Here is the tentative schedule I came up with from what I could find on my backloggery.

I'm sure Yakuza Kiwami 2 will be out before I finish this list and it'll just go after Yakuza 6 since I do things in release order anyway.

Tbh if this wasn't such a constructed list I might recommend spacing the Yakuzas out a bit more to avoid burn-out... but then again, from the feats you've accomplished I don't imagine that will be a problem either way!

Prologue notes

- Kiryu is retired running an orphange with Haruka
- Daigo is refusing to do a deal that would help the Tojo clan because it involves selling the land that orphange resides on
- FUMA OYABUN IS ALIVE and wants that deal done and some gunshots were exchanged with Daigo.
- Little girl drew a picture of Fuma and showed Kiryu and IT'S ON

I guess that took place before the prologue and closer to right after Yakuza 2 ended with Kiryu wrapping up loose ends before he took off to run the orphanage. Ended with beating down Majima shirtless on a rooftop to make sure he'll protect Daigo after he becomes the 6th Chairman

Took a sneak peek at chapter 2 before leaving for work. We're now 6 months after chapter 1 in the summer 2007. Still before when the prologue starts but we can go look in on Kiryu's life running the orphanage.

Kiryu has been receiving eviction notices in the mail and he finally decides to go talk to the local Yakuza family to see what can be done about it.

Yakuza 3 - 2/45 Trophies Obtained!

Defeated the boss of Chapter 2

Woo lots of chairs and tables and bikes to throw at this guy. I should mention I started the game on Hard mode so that I can unlock the hardest difficulty right away when I beat it for trophy purposes so still getting used to combat again.

After beating up the Lieutentant with a viper tattoo which is totally not a snake, Kiryu refuses the offer of the local yakuza boss about accepting the eviction and is able to avoid any more violence.

If I were to join SHINE on this quest, do I start with Yakuza 1 and 2 or do I start with Yakuza Kiwami 1 and 2--or both?

I absolutely must play everything in release order that's just my own rule for all games so I can see the evolution of the gameplay

for most people I see no problem with replacing Kiwami 1 and 2 in for 1 and 2

1 and 2 are fine. They just have some outdated mechanics like static camera angles. 1 also has an over the top english dub

Do the remakes add anything important plot-wise?

someone who had played them can comment better but I believe they add a ton of new majima content that is linked to his backstory from Yakuza 0

the thing about the Kiwami games is all the story cutscenes are shot in the exact same way they were shot in the PS2 games just with better graphics

They add a lot of cutscenes from one character's perspective at the end of every chapter. They add some extra plot relevant scenes in some of the substories.
