The honest answer is I forgot Rockbiter Weapon can target a character (your hero) instead of a minion LOL. Shaman is my least played class

Its almost as though there was a meta dominated by aggro shamans who used doomhammer + rockbiter to do big damage.

I don't have to play control warrior to know that cards like brawl and shield slam exist.

You also don't get to claim that skill doesn't matter when you don't understand or remember common card interactions.

Knowing what your cards do falls into the "skill" part of hearthstone.

Standard. I don't have anything in mind, but Aluneth was the only card I was missing to have everything I need for any non-DK Mage deck, so in the future if anything catches my eye I'll be able to easily try it.

Hadronox Druid seems like a deck that is fun to play, but it's incredibly unfun to play against. I'm not even playing Aggro either, but I've yet to beat it.

I'm really hoping it doesn't become too prevalent in the meta.

I have to end my session tonight on just three games; I'm laughing too hard.

I do up a Wild Thief Rogue, with 8 cards that generate cards from opposing classes, 2 Spectral Cutlasses, Poisons, Oils, and Tess Greymane. First game is against the old dreaded Overload Burn Shaman. He didn't draw too well, but I'm still impressed that by the time he was slinging every spell in his hand at my face before conceding, I had starting that turn at 27 HP.

Then the second game starts. It's Freeze Mage. Luckily, my initial Hallucination got a Mana Wyrm and it got up to 8 attack before he was able to kill it, so I was getting some good pressure in. But then the freezes started, and I wasn't able to buff my weapon quick enough to break it in a timely fashion, so I start using every thieving card I have in search of Ice Block. Eventually, I Ethereal Conjurer into a Hallucination, which at least has an option for Counterspell. I'm finally able to break his first Block, so I play Counterspell and pass. He continues drawing. Novice Engineer. Then Coldlight Oracle. Then second Ice Block.

"You win this one."

I queue up again. It's the same Freeze Mage. This time, I'm not able to get any pressure on him, so it's a very slow process of whittling down his health, and I still can't find anything good against his combo, but a Pick Pocket turns up a Spellbinder, so maybe I can bluff my way to a win. By the time I break his block, he has 2 cards left and he already played Emperor Thaurissan, so I figure I'm probably done for. I leave my board with 6 minions, just in case. He plays Antonidas, Apprentice, Apprentice, Molten Reflection, which activates Spellbinder. He now has 0 mana and 2 Apprentices.

"You win this one."

to which I finally had to respond: "Incredible."

Finally got around to watching Ulti's replay. I will admit that I am much less likely to hand-watch in Arena matches, so the Venomstrike Trap misplay is one I would make, and I'm willing to bet 9/10 of us would make as well. It's strictly a misplay, because it can absolutely be foreseen given how the game played out, but one that is totally forgivable, due to the circumstances behind it.

That Turn 9 is just so fucking bad, though. I draw that Rockbiter weapon and I am singing to the heavens that they blessed me with an answer to the Cobra that's plagued me for multiple turns. Why play the Stormpike Commando, first and foremost? That card's value in Arena doesn't come from his ability to take out 1/1's. It comes from finishing off damaged high-attack minions. It's not like it answers the board situation, either. If the opponent's board was just a Cobra and a 1/1, then I may have forgiven it because the Cobra is the only thing contesting the board. But he had a 3/3 right there to trade instead. I don't know what you were expecting to happen. You had 3 gigantic minions in your hand that you couldn't play because of something you could 100% kill easily with the 2 mana you floated that very same turn.

The honest answer is I forgot Rockbiter Weapon can target a character (your hero) instead of a minion LOL. Shaman is my least played class and I brainfarted, but I highly doubt I would have won that game anyway. It's all good. I took that trash-ass deck to 3 wins.

In retrospect it's hilarious, but I was really annoyed yesterday.

In conclusion, you made a beginner level mistake.

Looking forward to the next edition of "Ulti replays"!

Yes because no one at the highest level has ever made a silly mistake. There are thousands of examples from pro streamers, the best of which has to be day9?s shame concede or that hilarious Korean Raza.

I think the distinction everyone is trying to make is that the pro streamers laugh or brush off when they misplay, where as you find a way to blame the game or your luck for the loss.

You don't hear "this isn't a skill game" from a streamer when they play sub-optimally.

Of course I am. Everyone is, because Hearthstone will never be a game based on skill level. I just lost a game because two Bane of Doom both generated Doomguards. That is in no way a skill gap. There are no skill gaps in Hearthstone, only luck gaps.

I mean, poker is a heavily random game. There are huge skill gaps in poker.

You can be both a game with lots of randomness and a game with skill.

I never complain about Hearthstone prices because I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh competitively, where you needed 3-ofs of cards that were $50+ each to complete your tier 1 deck.

I would frequently play budget decks that only cost me $60 to make.

I mean, poker is a heavily random game. There are huge skill gaps in poker.

Poker has almost nothing to do with the cards themselves. It's all about reading people.

I programmed the poker minigame AI in a western game years ago (Gun). No, it has a lot to do with understanding cards and strategies.

I was terrible at reading people and would blush instantly when people tried to read me. Still won poker tournaments at my company cause I had just put together a poker AI and knew the strategy better than my opponents did.

Or if you don't like Poker as an example, how about Bridge?

Ulti, if you didn't have FD blocked, you would see a solid deconstruction of that game you posted. It's good info, and really, FD is like the weirdest person to block anyway, so you may as well get over it.

He seems to hate the part where i back up the stuff that i say with quotes and logic and evidence.

And honestly someone should just repost what i said without quoting me. Though I'd be surprised if he hasn't already read it unless he never logs into alts anymore.

Not that it matters because he doesn't think that making glaring mistakes means anything.

Dude he just rubs me the wrong way, it's not going to happen. I loathe know-it-all side-seat drivers, and I am a fantastic judge of character. If I think someone sucks, they suck. I've only ever been wrong on someone once in 35 years, bro.

At least twice, because you're completely wrong on judging your own character.

(you'll need to remove the space in the code above for it to work)

Step 1: Gather as many of your combo pieces as possible (which I've marked with an asterisk) and get a Thaurissan tick on them
Step 2: Ensure your opponent's board is mostly clear (they can only have two minions max. usually)
Step 3: Unlicensed Apothecary + Treachery + Brann + As many of your 'summon a minion for your opponent' combo pieces as possible
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Profit
