Do you like your boss? If so, wait until after the funeral unless you're close friends. You don't want to be annoying at a time like this.

If you don't like your boss, fuck em and just do it when she comes back to work if at all. You most likely don't get paid to worry about her bullshit outside of work.

If his Dad is in hospice, then asking how things are going is kind of stupid since the answer will almost certainly be 'Not real fucking well Trayvon, he's slowly dying right in front of me, after all'

I would just stick to simple courtesies in that situation.
