Don't get me wrong, the show definitely dropped somewhat in quality after Michael Scott left, but I still really enjoyed watching it and thought it was funny. Now, though, there's just a bunch of too-real depressing shit and the occasional laugh.

This happens to many shows, especially on sitcoms.

A very similar route happened to Scrubs, where half the cast left but they still tried making a show...I don't even consider that season to be part of the series to be honest.

How I Met Your Mother had a bad final season as well. It wasn't really so bad at first glance, but after you watch the finale, you realize the entire final season's story arc is pointless...

Season 6 was where I started to check out. It was the last good one.

I think South Park has stood the test of time better than most shows. From seasons 1-18, only 1 and 16 were kind of spotty, but you kind of have to forgive the first because many good shows still need time to find their footing. 21 was far better than 19 and 20 were (they were shit, honestly), so there's hope it will still be fun. The Fractured but Whole was honestly tied for 2017 GotY with Persona 5 for me, and felt like a 14~ hour episode.

The last couple seasons had their moments, but I was overall disappointed. I hate what they did to Andy. Made him so unlikable and just an all around awful person. I hated Nelly and never found her funny.

But the last couple episodes were great.

Normally you'd be right. With HIMYM though...... whether you liked it or not, that last season's story arc up to the finale was made completely redundant by the finale itself. (and for some, the series itself.) 22 of the 24 episodes first take place over a single day, then the last two gloss over several years worth of events that cancel out what happened that 'day'. The last bit of the finale was filmed way back in season 2 of a 9 season show. They made no adjustments to it to account for everything that happened in between then and the ending; it was an ending that would have made more sense if the show had ended no later than S5, maybe sooner.

I say this as someone who did enjoy the ride. I just hadn't realized I had been going in the wrong direction the entire time until I stepped out of the limo.

Yeah, the whole Andy thing doesn't make that much sense. Maybe if they'd made it a more gradual transition, maybe, but him becoming a complete asshole didn't make much sense in the amount of time they gave it.

Yeah, they really shit on Andy in the last season, which really sucked to me. His last line in the show is one of the hardest hitting moments though, really reminds me of how much I loved my last job.

After he left was when I actually got into the show. And my favorite episode ("Dwight K Schrute, Acting Manager") is a post-Michael episode. My second favorite is "Sexual Harassment Training" which was a Michael episode, though.

I enjoyed the ride as well, even if the finale killed a good amount of the show for me. I even liked most of the final season. I thought it was a great idea for a basis of a season. But man the finale literally killed everythig

That one last season episode where Andy brings in Gabe and some chick Pete used to date solely to torture Pete and Erin for just that one episode... worst of the entire series.

Honestly, I don't really understand how we as the audience are supposed to view Andy. He shifted between total jerk-off and lovably oaf so many times throughout the show. At the end he went from decent manager to worse than Michael before quitting ,but then his dream of being a singing star fell apart, so even though we were hoping for him to get lost we're also still sympathetic to his plight...?????

As opposed to the Andy who punched his fist through walls and called Jim "Big Tuna"? >_>

Any's character got re-written a few times and no iteration was particularly likable. At least angry Andy was something different, though.

And yeah, Nelly was the worst.

He started off as a complete asshole. He got a massive revision following the writers strike where they made him less of a jerk and more of a flake. Then towards the end it really felt like they were trying to write Andy as Michael. Granted, as an insensitive boss, he certainly had some great moments.

It was a new show at that point, basically a spinoff. To be fair, it seemed like it would have made for a decent spinoff had it gotten more than the one season.

Everything with Andy didnt bother me too much towards the end. First of all, I was really happy he became manager, Im just disappointed they did all that Nellie shit at the end of season 8. Who honestly thought that was a good idea?

And Im also disappointed that Ed Helms was out of quarter of the last season because of The Hangover 3.

Andy is probably the most relatable character to me, especially because it seems like he has no real grasp on what to do with life, and Im in the exact same boat.

Plus he had some of the most emotional moments towards the end of the show.

I enjoy it more on rewatches. They knew the show was ending from the beginning and made S9 a farewell season. Many shows dont get that. They do a good job of getting as many characters as possible a final send off including Roy, Jan, and Packer. They even bring back Devon for a cameo. And all of the mainstay characters had a respectable conclusion as well and thats really hard to pull off for a show with as many characters as this one had.

I like that Craig Robinson's character (blanking on his name atm) go more screen time later on. But I hate how they destroyed Andy's character. Why would they give him all that development and growth, just to throw it down the tube?
