We gave Russia exactly what they wanted. A divisive leader who would be soft on them and hard on everyone else.

This. We have proof going back months that Trump's team was in contact with Russian groups. Will we get any proof that Bernie had people in his team contact Russian groups to accept their help? That's the key difference. Willingly accepting that help and reaching out is bad. Having it thrown your way without you realizing it? Not so much.

Also? Are you admitting the Russians tried to help Trump? So now you're salivating that the other team may have also had Russians try to interfere to prevent a Hillary win?

More likely, their entire plan was to screw over just the voter base as a whole. If Hillary won, we'd be seeing the same stuff with pro-Trump stuff and pushing it hard talking about being an illegitimate President.

This is honestly what I expect most of the "meddling" to be. Barring the true criminal activity (hacking, data mining), the real stuff that Russia did wasn't maybe acting with a singular party, but setting up all these accounts to just screw with everyone. This is the new age of information, and it's going to be even more important to background check everything.

I have been authorized by the Department of Justice to confirm that the FBI, as part of our counterintelligence mission, is investigating the Russian governments efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, Comey told the House Intelligence Committee. That includes investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government, and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russias efforts.

Awkward...

Trump's connection was always central to the investigation

If the investigation only had to do with Russia interference and nothing to do with Trump, what was with all the indictments of Trump's staff for things unrelated to Russia?

Gee I don't know, let's see what the original order fucking says?

By virtue of the authority vested in me as Acting Attorney General, including 28 U.S.C. 509, 510, and 515, in order to discharge my responsibility to provide supervision and management of the Department of Justice, and to ensure a full and thorough investigation of the Russian governments efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election, I hereby order as follows:

(a) Robert S. Mueller III is appointed to serve as Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice.

(b) The Special Counsel is authorized to conduct the investigation confined by then-FBI Director James B Comey in testimony before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on March 20, 2017, including:

(i) any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump; and
(ii) any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation; and
(iii) any other matters within the scope of 28 C.F.R. 600.4(a).

(c) If the Special Counsel believes it is necessary and appropriate, the Special Counsel is authorized to prosecute federal crimes arising from the investigation of these matters.

(d) Sections 600.4 through 600.10 of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations are applicable to the Special Counsel.

Russia wanted Trump to win. Like I said, they're happy. They got a divisive, incompetent buffoon who won't interfere with their interests. It's icing on the cake that he's making a mockery of America in the process

No, they wanted to create enough of a split in the Democratic party that could be used. They'd probably rather have Sanders than Clinton, but they wanted Trump most of all.

It seems clear that Russia endorsed any candidate who claimed to intend to scale back America's foreign intervention.

I think it's more accurate to say that they identified:
1) Hillary Clinton as the favorite to win the election
2) Donald Trump as their preferred candidate
And they ran their operation accordingly: seeking to bolster Sanders in the primary(at the expense of Clinton) whilst torpedoing potential impediments to Trump's nomination, culminating in them running a disinformation campaign in the general election with the goal of helping Trump win. That is no longer debateable. The only thing debateable is how effective it was(I happen to believe it wasn't terribly effective).
Nonetheless, it represents an attack on our very system of government by a foreign power, and must be treated seriously. Any and all people who intentionally aided and abetted such an operation must be exposed and (where applicable) prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Anything less is a betrayal of our principles.

Exactly. Mal is just being a partisan shill about the whole thing, and this just proves it. Russia is such a "nothingburger" investigation, but the minute it looks to him like blame might be assigned elsewhere than Trump, he instantly jumps on it.
