So I got into quite an argument today with someone on my team. They wanted to start yet another dating sim game, and while I don't have issue with dating sims, we already have two currently running on the show, (three if you count Until Dawn as a horror dating sim? A stretch I know). I really don't want the entire channel to just be dating sims and that's it. I want to enjoy other games as well, and I want to diversify the different genres we play as well.

So his counter argument was he would do genital jousting instead lol. Then everyone was claiming that "the time has passed" for that game. Especially if we're trying to get a female audience in with Pokemon Snap and Until Dawn.

He said something that really pissed me off though. "It's not like we're going to upset our HUGE subscriber base, we're too small for anyone to care."

That to me is basically saying just give up on trying to grow, and play shit games cause no one is watching anyway. Basically throwing in the towel. Honestly, I've never liked his commentary or content before and it wouldn't really bother me in the slightest if he was gone. But at the same time, It's hard to put your foot down on someone when we make no money, do it for fun, and other people on the team are close to him.

You're in a position of politics within a group, which is never all that fun. I feel like the easiest way is "I wanna focus on channel growth, so if you edit it yourself (with the dating sim specifically, not genital jousting) I'd be glad to host it, here's my template". Just make it a situation of resources, but to seem like you're still generally willing if it's an additional thing as opposed to taking up the slot of something else.

Generally, most people will back down at the idea of work. And if not, hey, you have additional content that you may only have light editing, and can focus your own efforts in channel direction where you want.

Yeah, he actually backed down from that idea and came up with a whole new one which I'm actually pretty excited about. More details as we iron them out.
