Some people was arguing that in order to combat fake news spreading, Facebook and the likes of it should only be allowed to register with your real life ID like Social Security/ Driver License, etc.

Is this a good idea or not? Also, would it be legal in US ?

I don't see why it wouldn't be legal in the US, but it'd also created an extra barrier for entry for US citizens compared to those in other nations. I imagine it'd be a logistics nightmare to integrate every other nation's citizen identification system too.

And it probably wouldn't be a good idea from a security standpoint.

That said, if this is only limited to groups and businesses, then I can see that being more workable.

When the internet was first getting popular it was made very clear to lie about who you are to not post personal information online.

Also with everything giving lazy people the option to login with facebook, people aren't making individual accounts for everything so now they'll know who everyone is at all times pretty much everywhere.

also it's awesome and relevant to the topic so I'm leaving this here.

what if a random 3rd world country restrict access to facebook unless they register it with their ID?
especially the countries that track down any people who are criticizing the government?

so basically you're saying that registering with ID is totally unnecessary and/or pointless?

Probably not, but run me down on what you're talking about and I'll give my opinion...provided it's not a wall of text.

Well I'm highly opinionated but I barely follow politics at all.
