Did you read about how she got to the Olympics? I thought it was pretty interesting. She was eligible to compete for Hungary, where there apparently isn't any competition to make the team. She also found this loophole... You have to make the top 30 enough times in a certain kind of events, so she traveled around for 2 years going to events with 30 or less competitors

Yes it's very stupid but she was very clever to make it work. Also insanely rich to do that much travelling so I also hate her but she's hilarious enough that I can mostly enjoy the story and the gifs without thinking about what a monster this person is

I'd be more angry about the rules

I don't even care one way or the other that she's there, but I can't comprehend why it was her dream to make a fool of herself on worldwide TV like that. It really was a lot of work to show what a joke she is.

Remember a couple years ago there was a Meryl Streep movie called Florence Foster Jenkins about a talentless rich lady who got to sing at Carnegie Hall? That's the same thing. They'll make a movie about this lady.

I'd rather see The hangover 4 than that movie

Not me. I haven't seen The Hangover 2 or 3 so I don't want to see 4 and be lost.

I havent seen 3. Seeing 2 was one of the biggest regrets of my life.

I'm not angry that someone exposed some stupidity in a big stupid organization like the Olympics. I'm only mad (and not really mad more just internally groaning) as I think about what kind of life this lady has. She's like that fat oaf in the Koch family who has a business making terrible shirts

I just thought of the dumbest thing. If the MLB does nickname jerseys again, any player who wears 61 should make their nickname "I need scissors".

Didn't us men's soccer lose their world cup chances on a shootout in their most recent challenge. I know they didn't qualify for the next one anyway but that stung

But soccer actually needs the shootout because some games would last for literally days if there was no shootout

Yeah but that's also the problem, a shootout is like the antithesis to regular soccer. It's like if extra innings in baseball became a home run derby

Yes, that's why it's so awful having a shootout decide a gold medal. Shootout is fine for deciding who gets the extra point in regular season games after OT, but not the gold medal match at the Olympics. Imagine if game 7 of the world series or Stanley cup finals was decided by a home run derby/shootout

(or a world cup match)

For soccer couldn't they do a 7-on-7 or something in the same vein as the NHL's 3-on-3 OT, or would that just make scoring even harder? At the very least I don't understand why it's not sudden death.

I agree that the Olympic tournament should use NHL Playoff rules for the medal games.

Eric Moussambani is awesome. He actually won his race (albeit by default), and used it to try to raise money for swimming pools in Equatorial Guinea. I know they don't feature him, but just mention him, but he's awesome and I can't help but appreciate.

Working while you go to school must be nice. I mean, besides the lack of free time. But at best you get some good experience and at worst if it doesn't work out, you don't really even need to mention it to prospective future employers. Or in my case, I had a job that I didn't get any useful experience with, but it was basically being paid to do homework. I wish grad school wasn't expensive and hard to get into, I think I'd rather do that than try chasing some nonexistent dream job

That's an easy one, just get a stipend

Yeah that's p much what I've done. I had an on-campus job last quarter that I lasted 2 months before getting fed up with it. Just stopped going in entirely. Now this new job I have has 100s of employees and only 5 know my name. If I went in I'd just be working on my homework assignment, so what's the point?

I'm at work from 8-5 Monday-Friday. I get an hour lunch, but on a busy day I'd spend maybe 5 of those hours actually working. The rest of the time I'm either goofing off online or throwing my stress ball against the wall.

I had a cool work study job when I was in college. I was making 12 something an hour (in the late 90s). It was menial office work, with a lot of running around campus doing drop offs pick ups, what have you. My boss told me don't sweat it if I have no work to do, I could do homework and get paid for it. In fact during exam weeks she told me that I could come in and lock my office door so the other employees wouldn't bother me and I could study during my normal work hours and get paid for it.

I also worked for gamestop and when they called her for a reference, she asked how much they were going to pay me, she bluffed and told them she'd just give me weekend hours if they didn't raise the wage by $2 an hour.
