It has pros and cons.

Overall it's more BL goodness, but it's quite a bit smaller since it wasn't really supported with DLC. Not like the first two. And even the main game is quite a bit smaller than BL2 (though BL2 is kinda big itself)

The difficulty balance is toned down from what BL2 escalated to, and it doesn't have slag so they don't inflate enemy HP to ridiculous levels and just overall it's way less cheap.

There's something to be said of the setting though, as it's, well, all low gravity and such, so running out of oxygen can be a danger, and there's a lot more potential mobility to be had from jumping around and such. So that's gonna be a different feel.

I'm not sure if the same people who wrote BL2 wrote this too, but I was left with the impression it's different people because it sure feels like it. I really liked the writing in BL2 but this was kinda meh.

Class design/balance is at its best. They got a lot better at that.

There's a limited degree of crafting introduced which can make the drops a bit more forgiving. You can use undesired legendaries to craft other legendaries for example. So that's neat. It won't remove the need to farm, but it will make getting what you want somewhat easier than BL2's "bang your head against this tower of drywall until further notice" approach or BL1's "Throw 50 d20s into a tornado and pray" approach.

Overall I enjoyed it a lot (except one story mission that dragged on like 5x longer than it needed to be), but I definitely didn't play it as much as 1 or 2 because it just has much less overall content than those, especially 2 of course. That said, it also annoyed me the least and if I were the sort of person to start a bunch of new characters I might have eventually got more time out of it because as I mentioned earlier, they did real good with the different character classes this time. Not to say they're flawless but still. You can see a clear evolution in design philosophy across the games. Going from the basicness of BL1, and then the in-between of BL2, where they were experimental and pushing to something more with Gaige and Krieg, and this game kinda represents all that blossoming.

Not as a full priced game but I'd get it now if it was hovering at like 10 bucks

Not as good as 2, but still worth at least one playthrough if you enjoy the series.

It was short and not as fun as the others. If you are fiending for Borderlands though, it's worth a play.

Story-wise, if you're interested in Handsome Jack as a character you'll probably like it. It's pretty much his origin story from a fairly normal lead programmer at Hyperion to how he is in 2.

Gameplay-wise, I think I agree with everything Tmk said (except running out of oxygen, that never really becomes a bother). The character skills are pretty varied and a lot of fun to play as and they actually talk and respond to quest givers, which I like.

The difficulty feels a little more fair, and buttslamming groups of dudes with your O2 kit is awesome.

Only reason to get it is if you like Handsome Jack, really. Even then, it's still pretty mediocre.

The oxygen thing was only a concern sometimes for me because I like wandering out in the wasteland on foot a lot. >_>

Really it's the low gravity thing that makes things feel different. The first boss in the story really tries to drive that home that it changes how fights can play out.
