It was a great conversation-starter. It also held a charge for TWO WEEKS. That's right. Calling and texting on a regular basis, and I only ever had to charge it every two weeks. I'd also turn it off completely when I'd go to sleep. Apparently that's unusual based on what my friends told me.

Sadly, I had to finally upgrade to a "real" phone a few months ago, because it got to the point where people would send me texts with emojis or other multimedia content and it would display on my dinosaur phone as "#&#^JDHA&^@%@%!()(#*#&^!JDHDGS^@&#*$((IDH" and that isn't cool.

I patiently await the day we download emotions and memories and babies and Jesus.

My flip phone would only last 3-4 days and that was with minimal use. I stuck with flip phones for I think like 12 years. Before that, my cellphone wasn't a flip but it was just an older phone.

Still have a flip phone, I love it. People keep trying to talk me into a smart phone, and it's reached a point where my talk-only plan costs more per month than other people's smart phone plans that include texting and some data, which is super bs.
But damn it, it only needs charging like every 5 days, it takes up so little pocket space folded up, and I've dropped it dozens of times and the thing's an utter tank.
I don't want to give it up!

How?

Not sure for every case, but in some cases by using MVNO or other sellers who aren't the main cell companies but pay to use their lines (but those companies all have data plans and in some cases use wifi as the primary method to call). But in other cases, they just got special offers. An older semi-retired guy at work has the same provider as me (Verizon) w/ a data plan and pays less. He said he had been like me, sticking w/ a flip phone, and they offered him a really good discount plan if he upgraded to a smart phone.
*shrug*

The plan I'm on is actually gone now and I'm grandfathered in. The second we need a new phone, we'll be forced to the new low-end plan, which includes more voice time per month (but we never hit the limit now anyway...) and a bunch of texts per month. 100 or 1000 or something, don't know or care, I don't really text.

Remember those halcyon days between flip phones and the modern smart phone where phones had slide-out mini keyboards?

Speaking for myself, I send less than half a dozen texts a year, so a keyboard holds almost no value for me.

What's funny with today's poll is that 500+ people don't even have a flip phone. I know homeless people that have smart phones who leach wifi off businesses and charge their phones wherever they go

I had multiple flip phones from like 2004 or 2005 maybe to like 2015. I'm on my only 2nd smart phone ever right now cause my first one died on me.

Ive updated my IPhone every single year since the 4. Its all I ever have in my hand.
