I'm surprised 4 is so low, but at the same time I'm not

I've been afraid to replay it for many years just because I know it's not going to hold up at all

Yeah I've replayed all of them within the past six months (sans UCorp which I will never touch again) so they're all pretty fresh for me.

To me 4 was very much a monument for its time, but hasn't held up as well as most of the others. It was a build up to something that never came, which I do hold very much against it in the end as well.

If the Outbreaks had a more feasible way to play them (like, being rereleased on current gen with real matchmaking) they'd be even higher. I love me some Raccoon City stories and things like traversing a zoo full of zombie animals.

And if I was ranking games on story alone, Zero would be top 5. Love me some Wesker/Birkin tag team.

You hit most of the big spots for me, and generally have things in at least the right 'tier' so that's an acceptable list.

I should probably also make it clear that the only out and out atrocious game I consider on the list in Umbrella Corps. All the rest are varying degrees of playable all the way up to GOAT.

I'd call Survivor and maybe Dead Aim bad too tbqh

everything else is 7/10 and up though, RE is very good about not publishing garbage titles

4, REMake, and 2 are GOAT-caliber games and easily my top 3. Of the ones I've played (I haven't touched a few in years)...

RE4 >= REMake > RE2 > (pretty big dropoff here) RE3 > Code Veronica > RE5 > original RE > Umbrella Chronicles

I haven't played a new entry since 2009 and I really don't have much nostalgia/attachment to anything apart from my favorite three, but those three might all be in my top ten games, and because of them, RE is still probably my favorite series behind Zelda.

I'm so conflicted because I love the general feeling in RE4 so much, I fuckin love the horror of 1/2/3 and then really love the boldness of 7. Like there's so much to love in all of those.

....and then 5 is fun in co op I guess and 6 has some cool Leon parts.

I disagree, obv. I still feel like 1 is the most pure experience and to this day I think it holds up as a must play game.

The ridiculousness of everything Morpheus and the tG-Virus keeps Dead Aim above water imo. Survivor is way closer to the bad line, but I like the backstory it adds about the mass production of the T-103s and the Hypnos is pretty cool as well.

Yeah I love the whole Norman Bates thing he has going, and he's a unique villain when put up against the scientists, mutates, and CEOs of the rest of the series. Alfred is a true weirdo creep and manages to be quite the thorn in your side throughout the game despite his seeming incompetence. I like a mentally unstable villain who can be scarier than the literal monsters around you.
