Talking to my insane conspiracy-theorist mother yesterday reminded me that the world was supposed to end five years ago today.

Hooray on still being alive!

For real though, why do I have to be related to her? It makes me fear she could have passed down a crazy gene.

I remember that day perfectly. I'd crashed at my friend's place the night before and we had to dig our way out the next day because of all the snow we got.

Also, the world was supposed to end twice in 2011.

Watch out, it might skip a generation and land in one of your kids

Oh good, then the crazy gene has exited the gene pool!

Isn't there a specific passage in the Bible that says no man will be able to predict the end of times?

Yet these so called experts on the Bible and Christianity keep trying to predict this.

Geniuses

Yes, but apparently the Mayan calendar was an exception. Or something. I... can't really explain it. I wish I understood my mother's thought process.

Yesterday she was talking about some "3 mile long bridge" built "a million years ago" that "connected two continents." Clearly aliens.

LOL. Actually, that was what I thought she was talking about at first. When I questioned her about it more, she said it wasn't that one. She had seen it on TV. Doing a bit more research, I think it was this thing:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam%27s_Bridge

Still a farcry from "aliens"

I remember hearing some guy talk about how it was going to be the end of the world on the radio when I was like 8 or 9 years old. I spent the next couple of years being terrified that it was true lmao

And honestly up until the actual day there was always that little voice in the back of my head saying "you might all be dead soon!"

I'm not sure. My grandma, uncle, and mother all believed it and they range from "God's gonna send the gays to hell!" to "Aliens did everything."

Ha, something like that kinda happened to me, too. I first heard about it on some show about psychics that I watched sometime between 1996-2000. Scared my little kid brain pretty fierce.
