Board 8 > what were your favourite TV shows this year?

TV, anime, documentary series - whatever, I'm not discriminating. I wanna know what you love and what I missed. There's a few small shows I'm behind on, like the end of the Leftovers and Halt And Catch Fire. A few other series with recently released seasons that I haven't watched, like The Crown and Lady Dynamite. it would be foolish to add to my backlog. and yet, here I am.

I think the three best shows I watched this year were Le Bureau des Lgendes, The Good Place, and American Vandal. it gets a little hazy after that. Maybe Adventure Time? I really loved the Islands arc. Steven Universe had some great episodes this year too.

The Nathan For You finale was great. Yeah Steven Universe had some interesting stuff, and Rick and Morty was good. I've probably seen other stuff from this year worth recommending but I can't think of it at the moment....

I've really enjoyed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 this year, The Punisher and I've really been enjoying Runaways as well.

I also liked Children of the Stones, which I watched this year but didn't come out this year.

Twin Peaks: The Return was absolutely bonkers and I'm really warming up to Star Trek: Discovery but I'm only six episodes in so don't spoil it

I mostly only watch comic shows cause I'm a nerd like that.

Agents of SHIELD was really good last year. Enjoying this season so far too. Got into Gotham and burned through all that in about a month, that was a lot of fun, never been a big Batman fan so I had skipped it until now. Legends of Tomorrow is balls out and cheesy in the best ways.

Other than those; Stranger Things, GLOW, and The Good Place were all great.

Edit: Forgot I watched all of Westworld very early in the year, enjoyed that too.

Absolutely loved The Punisher, great performances from Jon Bernthal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, great emotional core, brutal action with meaning behind it. It was the adaptation I was truly waiting for.

Of shows I continue to watch, I'm really enjoying the seasons of Legends of Tomorrow, Lucifer, and Gotham this year. Legends is pushing fun characters in fun settings and it's working out really well. Lucifer has one of my favorite episodes of the year with Off the Record. Gotham's storytelling is great and off-the-wall, despite a shaky start with stupid crime licenses. Of course, the Arrowverse Crisis on Earth-X crossover event was just as fun and exciting as previous years' crossovers. Oh, can't forget a strong season of Preacher either.

The Mist really surprised me this year and I was sad to see it cancelled. It had interesting changes from the film and novella and some good effects.

American Gods was one of my favorite new shows of the year, with strong characters, direction, and storyelling.

Agents of SHIELD was godlike in season 4, and season 5 just started and is setting up to put in some work too.

For shows I did watch new episodes of:

Twin Peaks: The Return was fantastic, TV like I've never seen before. The last 6 episodes were easily the best run in the show's long history.

Mr. Robot Season 3 is not only a huge improvement over Season 2, but it is the best one yet and if the finale is of the same quality, one of the best seasons of any show. Each episode has its own unique style and it makes for some really ambitious filmmaking.

Also shout out to Samurai Jack.

I have not finished Season 1. However I looked up dates and I did make it to (January!) 2017, so I guess that does qualify after all.
