Demon's Souls. I think I spent 3 or 4 straight hours.....making my one sorceress look like a particular Victoria's Secret fashion model. It turned out quite lovely. In fact, she was so lovely, when people would join my game, they'd stop and bust out their telescope and stare at her face! I got a few private message compliments as well.

There's so much you can do in those games when it comes to the tiniest details of the face.

It's also hilarious how easily your character can go from reasonably attractive....to full-on derp face with just a few pixelated tilts of the eyebrows or nose arch. LOL

Beauty is a precious gem that you really gotta mine for.

I spent a half hour on my Oblivion character.
I figured out finally that I could choose the thinnest face to avoid the dreaded potato face look.

At least 2-3 hours for sure. Some MMOs I can't decide exactly so it takes longer than it should.

The longest single game was probably Dragon's Dogma though. So many little things to tweak that change your looks but also stats...sort of. Heavier = more carry weight, slower stamina regen, etc, etc. So that was difficult because it affects things beyond face/body visuals. Dark Souls (and many other games) wishes it had a character creator like that.

Pointed this out in the other topic that I can't be bothered to spend too long in them. But when I play games with unique races I usually spend a few extra minutes making them look not totally ugly.

For an initial design? Maybe 30-60 minutes. Other things I've spent a lot of time over a broad swathe of play time on tiny customizations.

probably ~30ish minutes. a couple times I tried making something that looked like myself which probably took the longest. otherwise I just quickly choose things that fit the character that I'm making.

Probably about 2-3 hours.

Around 1 hour (give or take a bit) might be standard for me, because I always take a long time on character creation, though the more options a game gives me to play with, the longer it takes.

But I always need the perfect name for every character I make, and I have been known to sit around for hours just thinking about names before I even start character creation, because until I have a name I can't click "finished" on character creation no matter how much time and effort I put into it.

I'd rather delay starting a game for days until I think of a good name than start and just sit in the creator for hours and hours and hours.

I try to get through it as quick as possible. If it has a randomizer I'm definitely using it with maybe spending a few minutes tweaking a couple of things.

My ADHD kid will spend hours making a character then only play the game through the intro, then never play it again.

My nephew and I both played through the intro to Destiny multiple times because the creator wouldn't let you rotate your character.

We'd play through the intro (an hour or so long) to get to the Tower, where your character finally takes off their helmet for the first time and you can see their face from all angles, only to decide we didn't like how their hairstyle looked from behind, so we'd scrap the character entirely and start over again.

I think I did that like a dozen times, all told.

Also an issue for me, with the occasional exception of games where the name really never comes up or I just decide to go with a preset.

If something gives me the option to change things after hitting confirm, I can spend days working on characters. It's so easy to make characters look good, but once you start seeing them in action you notice little details that look weird. So I spend a little while making a character, play around with them a bit, notice the weird stuff, tweak, play more and repeat until I have perfection.

Most games don't let you do that though, so I get stuck with a character that looks good from a couple angles and derpy from all the others.

For me, the name always comes up, because the name shapes the character concept, which in turn shapes the character's personality, which in turn shapes what I want them to look like when I'm tweaking sliders in the character creator, and all of which plays a role in how I'm going to play them in the rest of the game (assuming it's a game where I have choices or have any power over the story at all).

Interestingly enough, I've noticed that has a few odd quirks of its own in practice. Like how, if I'm planning on doing an entirely dirtbag "Dark Side" run where I'm going to murder my way through the world and just be the nastiest asshole I can (probably to get some sort of "EVIL" achievement or to be a completionist and finish multiple paths through the story), that character will almost ALWAYS be male (and will almost always have sinister facial hair). But my default go-to first character (and most common character) for any RPG is almost always female, and I tend to play them far more good-natured and noble than I would ever actually be in their situation.

I also have a tendency to throw a pair of glasses onto characters when I'm given the option, which is about my one sole concession to putting "myself" into my characters.

I'm not sure it's actually possible to make an attractive character in Skyrim (at least unmodded). The closest I ever came was a Nord who looked vaguely Italian.

I have the same issue with ESO - pretty much every race is unattractive by default, with the Nords seemingly the only race you can really tweak actual prettiness out of.
