80/80

seriously, like, me and my girlfriend don't live particularly glamorous lives. We don't make much money but we have a nice little apartment and are saving up money before getting engaged. But between the two of us, our closest friends all seem to be absolutely AWFUL at like, basically, life in general. and all they do is complain about how hard life is, and ask for hopes and prayers on Facebook.

like, one said she was gonna take it slow with her new boyfriend since her last breakup was messy. 6 months into dating, they decide they're moving to Alaska. after a failed GoFundMe, they had to charge their way across America to get there, and after maxing out two credit cards, are now in the process of buying a house there despite the boyfriend breaking his fist punching a door in Vegas and not able to work for the forseeable future. (And they still haven't been together a year, lol)

Another friend of mine moved to another state and into an apartment he never even visited or inspected once before signing a lease, which later turned out to be infested with roaches and have water leaks. He did this so he could finally move in with his long-distance girlfriend of 14 years (who dropped out of high school and has never worked a job) which he also cheated on once in the past.

One of our other friends quit literally her last 5 jobs (all teaching positions) and is now couchsurfing friend's houses in Jersey while hoping to get yet another teaching job because she said she refuses to accept an entry position job.

Like, this isn't even all of the horror stories. I got ones that restarted college like 4 times and has $1200 worth of student loans to pay every month... another one that's a single parent who's trying to hook up with an alcoholic dude in Belgium that she met on the internet...

It's really upsetting just watching your friends basically turn into a giant exploding sinking ship over and over and there's nothing you can do but sit there and watch them go down in a blaze of glory ;_;

This.

I see myself being homeless and doing nothing with my life. Really, just no motivation, purpose, interests, lifelong depression, etc.

I've made median income somehow, and i have no real idea why or how.
How the fuck am I even still alive?

A lot of them are already down these kinds of paths so talking to them won't do much to fix whats like... already happened.

there's one who I've talked to already about making better financial choices but she doesn't wanna hear it. her and her bf want to get an apartment together but can't afford to because they don't know how to budget correctly. She works two full time jobs, 70 hours work week total, and he works part time, and yet they don't have a savings account together. They always go out to eat for lunch/dinner and throw all their money away on every video game, movie, and conventions and stuff. But then they insist that it's too expensive to move out, despite not having ever tried creating a budget.

like, I've told her I can help them out with figuring out how to start saving up money so they can get a home together but she always tries to play it off cool and says she doesn't think savings accounts are worth it since there's no difference between that money and spending money on your checking account.

And ive even MORE horror stories too :( but you can't save people that don't want your help, no matter how worried your are about them

Specifically, I'm interested in the GoFundMe your friend set up that failed. What was it for? I've always found it odd when people set those up for anything beyond illnesses or injuries.

I'm generally the babysitter for my group of friends since they're usually really dumb girls and occasionally a few Chads.

I enjoy that though so I guess I'm just weird.

well like, she and her boyfriend of 6 months decided that instead of saving money up to move Alaska, they wanted to beg people for money to help pay for their road trip across America. They got about $400 before leaving, then ran out of money after a week and then charged everything to credit cards like I said lmao

You're right, the money in the spending account is better because in an emergency it is already liquid.
