Ive only owned really old cars or just used company cars before. Now i decided i wanted a new car and i decided i wanted an electric car. Nissan Leaf looked like would suit my needs and my wallet, haha

Anyways: Since ive never had a new car before, there are probably some tips and tricks that i might not need to figure out on my own, given that some of you guys might have some experience you can share ^_^

Even better if you have leaf yourself and might have some tips and tricks about that car.

Thanks in advance!

Arriving late next week or early after that. Im really looking forward to :D

When you say really old cars what do you mean?

New cars are easier and harder to diagnose problems.

From what I understand you have to purchase a new power cell or battery every 5 or so years at around 5k$ cost so keep that in mind. You should still save money in the long run not needing to purchase gas but it is something to keep in mind.

My best advise is to keep up on maintenance and to make sure you really trust whatever dealer you take it to because they are going to be doing most of the work over the life of the vehicle

Just for fun I did some math:
The average cost of a kilowatt hour is 12. The leaf gets exactly 30kwhr per 100 miles. So you are paying $3.60 per 100 miles. Using my local gas prices ($2.60 a gallon) that comes out to the equivalent of getting around 70 mpg.

The Leaf has about as much personality as a washing machine. I can do a lot better than that if it were my money.

Oh, so you're one of those people, among other Toyota or Honda owners, who also support the rape of Nanking and other Japanese atrocities and war crimes throughout history, okay.

Right, so instead of having to replace the battery in 5 years hell have to replace his entire car.

Unless its a Jeep with a straight 6, of course.

Edit: Also, electric batteries will last much longer than 5 years, but the range will have become noticeably shorter by then.

I live in Norway, so the electricity is way cheaper than the gas. + for the time being, its free to go through the toll. I can charge in the area where i live for about 6$ a month, for now at least. They are talking about expanding it for better charging capabilites because more people are getting electric cars - which probably needs to be funded by owners of such cars. As for now and the near future, its very cheap at least

I got a great deal on it and since im not a car guy, the personality of the car doesnt bother me much. Although i agree, i see them everywhere xD But i look at the positive aspect of it - if a lot of people own the same car as me, its probably easier to get spare parts, cheaper service etc

Its the 2017 Tekna version. I looked at the 2018, but that had a waiting line so far that when that comes around, i would probably drool at the 2019 version xD haha. Better to just get it out of the way ;)
Some of the features in the 2018 version looked cool, though. Ill admit that

Ive been looking around on a few forums and found tips along the lines of what i was looking for: Maybe once i give examples, its easier to give more:

A stick of the cars paint job to keep in the car. To cover up if a small stone damages it a little or something
An automatic parking timer, that way i dont have to worry about setting a manual timer everytime. Avoiding them fines
Apparently the night lights/beam (not sure how to translate this one) are pretty weak and i can be better by putting a bigger earth cable to the bulb. Nissan will apparently fix this if one complains about it - free fix
Not let the Leaf continue to charge for hours after it has reached a 100%. From what ive read, that will weaken the battery over time. Im actually not sure how easy this is to do. Anyone got any experience with this?

On the sales papers it is noted that the battery has a warranty for 8years/100 000km (drops below 75%), so i guess that means that they are pretty confident in their batteries, which is a good sign :) It is one of my worries, haha

I wouldn't go brand new, personally, even if I had more money than I knew what to do with. Cars depreciate much faster the newer they are. I've heard two years as a rule of thumb.
