I remember trying to get a non-gamer friend of mine to try out Portal but she was having trouble simply moving around the first chambers. But I don't know how the controller can be changed to make it easier to learn how to use it. They were just another set of buttons for whatever extra function games needed them to do. Usually minor stuff like switching grenade types and toggling the flashlight in Halo for example.
